    Salary Cap calculator

    nyjetscap @nyjetscap
If you wanted to play #NFL GM our friend Nick has pretty much developed the coolest interactive tool to do it

    http://overthecap.com/calculator/?Team=Jets

They are 26 million under the cap before any cuts next year.
    Not bad.

This off-season will be big. Idzik seems to have nailed his 1st draft and now has money to spend in addition to the draft. I dont expect us to go throwing a ton of $ around but we should get better, especially at the skill positions.

    Thats Pretty Awesome.

I figured before any Resignings we should have about 44 Million. That would be with Cutting Sanchez, Holmes, Goodson, and K Ellis.

I think Austin Howard and Willie Colon is a must resign.

Calvin Pace maybe a 1 year vet min.

I would like to hold on to Walls and Lankster.

    We should Franchise Tag Folk.

Some FA's by position if anyone wants to look. Obviously people will be re-signed tagged etc...

Antonio Cromartie bears watching as well. If he has indeed hit the wall, count him among the axed list. And potentially Sam Shields or Vontae Davis pursued.

SYJF, why would you cut Ellis - he's still on his rookie contract and he's a backup. He can be re-signed cheaply and be a valuable young reserve. You would just have to go out and replace him. You keep that type of player every time. He can play. This is the type of player the Jets have not been drafting/keeping because Tanny had to scurry about trading up for picks to first fit Mangini's team and then Rex's. This team badly needs depth (and stability - keep Rex!) and this will be addressed in next year's draft as John has smartly attained extra compensatory drafts choices solely for this reason.
This is also why you keep Lankster and Walls. I'm sure Idzik is watching how Berry's rehab is progressing as he's due to become a FA. It will be interesting to see if they extend Kyle Wilson. The CB position as a whole will be worth watching.

Why in blue blaze would you cut Kenrick Ellis?

Cut Sanchez and Holmes. Most likely cut Crom and try to sign him for a significant pay cut. That should give us 50 + M in cap space.

    FA Targets:

    Offense -

Maclin, Pitta, and Dmac if they give us reasonable deals since they are coming off injuries.

We also need line help outside the tackles.

    Defense -

We need to get one of Vontae Davis, Tarrell Brown, Verner, or Brent Grimes. None deserves top tier money. I am hoping for 7-8 m per year. Buy low corners: Sam Shields/Tracy Porter

Safety - TJ Ward or JB obviously if they come cheaper than excepted

I don't think we need to waste money on any front seven guys. I like Shaun Phillips on a cheap deal.

Offensive weapons should be the goal this off-season. I think we look at Oline, RB and DBs in FA and go to the draft for WR/TE targets and Special Tm help. I also like the idea of signing both Tates.

What has he done to warrant him staying ? That is clearly Snacks position now.

I feel like every time I see him go in, the next week I hear he is injured.

I suppose he is depth and I might be playing madden a little more than I should. I just dont see any kind of long term effect he will have on this team. lol.

You are right he is depth and comes in from time to time and makes a big play. He also gives snacks a rest from time to time. Plus he is only save us 600k. That's not 6 million but only 600k.

You can't just simply dismiss backup positions. And more than this, he's a talented backup. Name me a better backup that is inexpensive and young. Good luck with that. He's a GM dream and quite frankly should be a fan's dream. IMO, he's a keeper.

    Good tool.

    Goodbye MSanchez.
And SHolmes either restructures or its goodbye to him too.
DHarris is interesting because he IS the undisputed leader of the D and is playing VERY good ball, BUT I can't help but to think that JIdzik may try to get that amount down just a bit. He won't be a cap casualty but may again be asked to restructure just a bit.
Not ready to say goodbye to Cro yet, despite his hefty amount. People on here may complain about him but he hasn't been the same ever since he got injured in practice, try twisting your knee and then run, push off, jam, strafe, backpedal and cut on a dime with it, and you'll see how easy it is to deal with.

    As far as FA:
We'll see how much MWeg thinks of WR JMaclin when he hits the market.
I still have eyes on TE JGresham, he's a big, skilled target to grow with Geno.
