Bye Week Thread: Award show, Game discussion, and a relaxing week in JetLand

Made it to the bye at 5-4. Not bad for a team that was expected to accomplish nothing!

    Awards:

MVP: Mo Wilkerson. It goes JJ Watt and then Mo in terms of best 3-4 defensive ends. He's simply unstoppable right now. Runner up: Folk
Offensive MVP: Geno. Look for Ivory to make a pass as we kick into the second stretch.
Defensive MVP: Obviously Wilkerson. Runner up would probably be Sheldon Richardson.
ROY:Sheldon Richardson might win defensive rookie of the year for the entire NFL this year. But unfortunately, his stats will probably stop that from happening. This defensive line looks scary. Runner up: Geno.
Biggest Disappointment: Antonio Cromartie for me and it isn't a question. He had some big shoes to fill in for Revis and he simply hasn't. He's been awful for the most part. Runner up: Dee.
Biggest surprise Damon Harrison has to win. He's played that well over the course of the season. He wasn't even projected to start in July, ran through the competition in training camp and is now top of the league in terms of nose tackle. Runner up: Antonio Allen.
Best win: Have to go with New England. This 5-4 team was supposed to win 2 games all year yet we took out our biggest rival in an exciting game. Falcons game was also amazing.
Worst loss: Titans. Bengals game was baaaaaaad but they are a good football team. Tennessee just isn't to me. We should have won that game, let alone get blown out. Pittsburgh also hurts.
Nick Folk deserves an Award Award:This one goes to Nick Folk. What a season. You have to love it. But at the same time we can't jynx it so don't talk about it too loud.

Feel free to add your own.

Agree with most of this, but I think the Pittsburgh loss hurt us more than Tennessee. The Titans just kicked us around and played better, but the Steelers played a lousy game like us and still came away with a victory....that one hurt bad.

great post, although the receivers have to get some nods for biggest disappointment, Holmes has barely played.

My vote for worst loss is week 2 @ New England simply because we let that one completely slip away. I mean we held Tom Brady to 13 points and we still couldn't get the win.

Cincinnati we got destroyed, Tennessee we got destroyed, and Pittsburgh was a team that could give us problems.

But to lose @New England 13-10 and turn the ball over 2 times inside the New England 30 was the worst. With that victory, we are 6-3 and would own all tiebreakers in the AFC East with the Patriots

And BTW, we are at my favorite week of the whole season. No worries about the Jets and can watch everyone else this week get beat up!

    Awards:

MVP: Folk Hero, can't mess with perfection

Offensive MVP: Willie Colon, he brought a nasty-toughness to this OL that will only become better.

Defensive MVP: Wilkerson, it fun to watch him go beast mode.

    ROY:Sheldon Richardson has been special.

Biggest Disappointment: Holmes, he is the biggest weapon on this team and he doesn't even play.

Biggest surprise Geno, he does whatever it takes to win or Calvin Pace, it looks like he's reborn.

Best win: The Saints, I thought we might get blown out. Coples rounds out the Four Horsemen. Dee was solid and Ivory made his old team his *****.

Worst loss: The Steelers or the Pats.

Injury that hurt the most: Antwain Barnes.

Best player in the 2nd half: Coples, with him forcing the QBs stepping in the pocket it will allow Wilks and company to clean up the mess.

Best Rookie in the 2nd half: Dee, as the season goes along he'll become more comfortable with the speed of the game.

Biggest Disappointment in the 2nd half: Winslow, I don't think he'll make an impact when he comes back.

Biggest Disappointment by a rookie in the 2nd half: Winters, he is getting beat at couple of times a game and I don't see that trend ending any time soon.

The Jets make the playoffs if Geno matures for the remaining 7 games.

Biggest game in the 2nd half: Ravens, the Jets have a chance to string a few wins together if they can beat the Ravens on the road.

He'd find something wrong or contract herpes or something don't you know. Sorry CCU, but it would be nice to see some untempered enthusiasm from you. But I know you'd rather wallow in the past.
You have to get past the fact that there inevitably will be growing pains with a rookie QB who played shotgun in college. Even you would have to admit he's progressing nicely.....no, who am I kidding?

I think the win epitomized a team effort from the Jets. That was really one of the greatest feats in the Rex era. How could they possibly muster a win coming off the biggest thrashing in recent memory? Of course, the butt fumble is still burned into my memory but it seems so long ago, thankfully.

The big bad Saints with Brees and Graham came to town with Rex' brother certain to flash as many disguised schemes imaginable to confuse Geno. This was a huge uphill climb. And the Jets trot out a cast comprised of:

    Stephen Hill (No catches)
Jeremy Kerley (left early with injury)
    Greg Salas (Who?)
    David Nelson (No one wanted)
    Josh Cribbs (No one wanted)
    Zach Sudfeld (Cleared waivers)
    Tommy Bohanon (7tth round rookie)
Chris Ivory (Given away by the Saints, albeit a 4th rounder)

One of the biggest mismatches you'll ever see on paper yet this is the group with a rookie QB responsible for scoring 26 and beating the high-flying Saints?

    I'm impressed.

I don't recall a game where so many contributed to the cause. Clay has more game balls (deserved) given out than I've ever seen. As a fan, this is a bright moment. If it doesn't turn into something special this year, it's the kind of effort that can ignite a franchise towards bigger and better things. And I'm really glad they get to enjoy this one for a week or so because they deserve it. Great job, Jets!

MVP: Mo Wilkerson- I'll take him over ANY other 3-4 DLman in the league right now and that includes JJ Watt. Making a push for DMVP of the league.

Offensive MVP: Geno- He's shown that he can be the franchise QB, now he must learn how to play consistently like one.

Defensive MVP: DHarris- He's quietly been racking up tackle after tackle again, like the hitman we're use to.

ROY: Sheldon Richardson- Did Mo Wilk clone himself?

Biggest Disappointment: MGoodson- I had hopes he was going to be the new school Leon Washington for us.

Biggest surprise Snacks- One of the key reasons why it's been so hard to run on the Jets and he's been a disturbance against the pass too.

Best win: vs Saints- Not many people believed the Jets stood a chance before this game. Game was won by defensive pressure, ground and pound, and smart decisions by the QB. Total team win.

Worst loss: vs Titans- The Steelers had 0 wins and were coming off a bye, they were super pumped. The pay-toilets was tough to swallow but that happens in divisional rivalries. Cincy was flat out dreadful. BUT the Titans was the worst lost because this was a team that the Jets matched up well with, but they never showed up.

Injury that hurt the most: Antwain Barnes- He was the speed rusher to go along with the power of the defensive front.

Best player in the 2nd half: QCoples- if the Saints game is any indication of his progression at OLB, he may be ready to turn up the aggression.

Best Rookie in the 2nd half: DMilliner- I think the Saints game might have been teh beginning of confidence. Let's hope so.

Biggest Disappointment in the 2nd half: Winslow, I don't think he'll make an impact when he comes back.

The Jets make the playoffs: If the season ended right now. 2nd wildcard baby.

Biggest games in the 2nd half: 2 games vs the fish, if the Jets want to make a playoff push these are must have games.

    MVP: wilkshake. beast mode.

Offensive MVP: toss-up between geno, the o-line as a unit, and ivory (for playing a big part in our two biggest wins)

Defensive MVP: wilkshake, but since he's my MVP, i'll go with either hitman harris or s-rich

    ROY: s-rich... ****ing animal

Biggest Disappointment: i won't go with an injured guy, so my pick is either cro or hill

    Biggest surprise:
big snacks... from depth guy to stud overnight!

    Best win:
pats for obvious reasons, but the saints win felt the best because we really took it to an elite team while dominating the line of scrimmage. we forced them to play our game, and it worked perfectly.

Worst loss: the pats because the win was there for the taking, unlike vs. tenn and cincy. we were in foxboro with 3 chances late to tie or take the lead. not to mention that hill fumble while we were driving. just a really tough pill to swallow because beating them in their place is like finding the cure for aids.

Best player in the 2nd half: milliner. obviously, this isn't my "best" player for the entire team down the stretch, but i expect him to continue to grow and be comfortable in rex's system, and we'll begin to see why he was taken 9th overall. i also think coples is going to continue to beast as he gets healthier and back into regular playing shape.

Best Rookie in the 2nd half: obviously i just picked milliner to be most improved, so he's my pick here too, but i think geno will continue to grow (with his typical rookie mistakes along the way) and s-rich will continue to be an animal.

Biggest Disappointment in the 2nd half: hill... hopefully tone coming back helps open up more chances for hill

The Jets make the playoffs: if geno has more games like this sunday and the falcons, where he limits or eliminates TOs, and if milliner can continue to grow and make the weak link of our D stronger.

    MVP: Muhammad Wilkerson

    Offensive MVP: Geno Smith

    Defensive MVP: Muhammad Wilkerson

    ROY: Sheldon Richardson

    Biggest Disappointment: Antonio Cromartie

    Biggest surprise: Damon Harrison

Best win: Pats win. Beating the Pats is always awesome.

Worst loss: Pats loss. Losing to the Pats is always sucky.

Best player in the 2nd half: Chris Ivory. The guy is going to go beast mode, IMO.

Best Rookie in the 2nd half: Sheldon Richardson. He's gonna continue to be a beast, IMO.

Biggest Disappointment in the 2nd half: Jeremy Kerley. I think he's gonna miss time with the elbow which will limit his productivity.

The Jets make the playoffs: If Geno continues to progress, limit turnovers and make plays with both his legs and arm.

Also, I'll gladly eat some crow. David Harris has had a good season. His every other year of being good is annoying. But he's at least playing well this year. Him and Demario are 2 parts of our linebacking core I really like. Harris still goofs up from time to time but overall I'm pretty pleased.

And even though he's gotten lucky with some of his sacks, pretty nice to see Calvin Pace, who many of us probably thought was completely done last year, has 5 sacks this year. Impressive. I think that's a pretty quiet number because most of the buzz has gone towards Mo's numbers. 8 sacks as a 3-4 defensive end is boner city.

    Really liking this defense.
