-Jon Lester: Just picked up his option for '14, now the question is do they work out an extension?
-Jon Lackey: Set in stone now and tack on a year at the min to his contract. (Does this help the AAV?)
-Clay Buchholz: Does he get dangled around in trade talk? Looks pretty fragile to me, center piece of a Stanton deal maybe?
Felix Doubront: Has flirted with promise for bits of each of the past two seasons, but throw a solid 160 IP 2nd straight year..hope he can up it too 200 innings
Then here comes the debate IMO Peavy or Dempster. Both on 1 year contracts, Peavy probably fetches a little more in a trade, Dempster can pitch out of the pen too though. I like us to keep Peavy and shop Dempster.
Does Workman get into the discussion for 5th starter next year? We got some young arms on the horizon, I hate to limit Workmans potential by putting him in the 'pen.
Closer: Uehara: Duh, enough said.
MR: A. Miller
Then there are other pieces and potential free agents. Hinojosa was signed for 4M got to figure he's in the mix. Workman and Britton also, maybe Dempster if we keep him. Don't think much more money will be invested into BP, maybe bring one of Hanrahan/Bailey back, but doubt that.
Catcher: Salty, I mean I wish we could give him a QO, he says no and we collect a pick. My fear is he says yes and we are stuck with him again. I like Lavarnway, have for a couple years, he just needs consistent at bats. I think he could be a really solid #6 hitter, a guy who can work the count and get on base, has an approach. Ross is fine as the backup again, got to love his veteran leadership and grit.
First: We resign Napoli? What kind of terms? Drews expected to recieve a QO, do the sox think Middlebrooks could handle 1B? (I don't.) Cuban guy went to White Sox. Morales might be a fit if Napoli walks away?
Second: Pedroia, thumb injury soon, hopefully has a little more pop in the bat next year.
Left Side: Interesting to see the Sox where expected to extend Drew a QO, I really wouldn't mind him accepting and going into the year with Xander at 3rd and Drew at SS. I thought Xander adapted really well at 3rd and with more time under his belt, will only become better. Not many attractive free agents out there.
Outfied: Jacoby's probably gone, does Victoriano take over in CF out of the gate or is it Bradley JR job? Is this the off-season we land Stanton? My favored scenario would be sliding Shane over to center and sign Beltran. Then platoon Gomes/Nava in LF.
Just thought I'd get some discussions going about the roster for next year, hadn't seen much talk and didn't want to derail a thread, move this some where else if you want.
