Sounds like New England close to trading for Eagles DT Isaac Sopoaga.
Would be nice if it happens.

    That's why he cost a 5th minus a 6th...

He's an immobile, non pressure the QB DT space taker upper. Drafted in '04. pretty healthy overall, not a game changer. Not liable to have much influence in the outcome of games.

6/27/09: “We expect [Rondo] to play by the rules and be a leader as a point guard. We need him to be more of a leader,” Ainge said. “There were just a couple situations where he was late this year, I don’t know if he was sitting in his car, but showed up late and the rest of the team was there. We have team rules and you have to be on time. He was fined for being late, he said he was stuck in traffic, and it’s just unacceptable.”

Don't know enough about Sopoaga to really have much of an opinion. Eagles actually had a somewhat decent run defense with Soap, Cox, and Thorton, so I'm hopeful he can help shore up our anemic run defense.

Sopoaga was very good in San Francisco at stopping the run. Him+Jones should make for a huge improvement since wilforks departure.

Hopefully he can help clog the middle on running plays. Eat up some blockers for the LBs.

I wonder what this means for Armstead? Are we going to shelf him for the year or will our DL be Sapoaga, Kelly, Jones and Armstead with Vellano going to the PS?

Will we go with 3 DEs and 5 DTs instead? Are we going to start playing more 3-4? Do we need anyone else besides CJones, Nink and Carter?

I like this deal. Before this, and with Kelly's injury we had Vellano and Chris Jones taking virtually all the DT snaps. (Minus the end @ DT sub package). That can really wear them out as the game goes on, not to mention both are UDFA. This trade immediately gives a legitimate 3rd option to rotate in and give a breather to the guy not in the game. Also, he's gonna be your best run stopping DT, so that will help as well. When Kelly comes back that give us some pretty decent depth and talent at the position. Forston will be the first to the PS squad when Kelly and or Armstead returns. And do not think we will release Chris Jones or Vellano, both have played pretty well and some team may try to pick them up before they make it to the PS. We give up virtually nothing for Sopoaga, but it could have a pretty good impact on our push in the middle, helping the run game and perhaps the pass rush.
