I am a Packers fan btw and have watched every Rodgers start except for a few. I'm going to ignore 2008 because it was clear to me that he was learning the game. I'd say from he didn't even start to reach his prime until the 2010 postseason, but I digress. Still from 2009 forward his game started to reach a level that we are accustomed to seeing, which is elite play.
Am I the only one noticing that Rodgers from 2009-2011 seemed to play different than he did from 2012-2013. Especially this season there seems to be a more conscious effort to play within the pocket. Release the ball quicker. More line checks. More audibles, just more of a QB controlled offense. A more cerebral game.
Then I watch games from 2009-2011 and it seems like Rodgers was just out there firing the bajeezus out of the ball. I'm not saying his mental game wasn't up to par then, but he was definitely playing different from what I saw. More rockets outside the numbers. More deep posts. More deep back shoulder throws. Taking more risks into double coverage. More scrambling outside the pocket and holding onto the ball more.
Anyone else notice this? I'm not saying it's a bad thing to evolve your game as your career progresses. Favre never did and I think we all know that had a negative affect on his game.
