Knicks retain Chris Smith (JR's brother)

I thought sticking this in the main forum would spark some interesting conversations. I mean they cut 5 players in favor of this guy, who wouldn't even make a D-league team. I can't remember the last time something like this happening in pro sports, where a franchise would structure a player's contract to include signing a relative as part of the deal .

As a Knicks fan, this is absolutely sickening...

People wonder why the Knicks are the laughing stock of the NBA.

No doubt it was part of JR's new deal, there is literally no other reason he is still on the roster...

    Sad ...

I'm probably in the minority but I'm not mad at all. If you go through the league and research how many current players are people's sons, nephews, or other relatives you'd be surprised. Nepotism is kindof the unspoken thing, just so happens the Knicks were totally obvious about it.

If everyone else is getting away with it, I can't knock his hustle....

You don't take away a roster spot from someone who deserves it so you can please your 3rd or 4th best player on the team. This isn't little league...

Go overseas Chris and make a decent living ....

Definitely a wink-wink handshake deal made when we re signed JR. Hopefully he gets cut before the guaranteed money kicks in, and we bring back one of the other guys.

Knicks retain Chris Smith (JR's brother)

Sad.. J.R Smith is causing more harm than good. It's pretty evident that he had a huge role in this as no one in their right mind would even take a second look at Chris. Not to mention J.R has issues himself to cope with. Going to be another one of those seasons for the Knicks. They should have invested in someone who has the goal of winning. Not someone who uses basketball as a way to fund for his bad habits and sneaker collection.

I wonder if it isn't something deeper than anyone here seems to know. What if JR is legit better in the locker room with his brother there? What if the Knicks actually knew what they were doing. Now, I am not trying to argue that this is the case, just wondering.

I'm thinking its more to keep J.R. in check. Maybe Chris can keep JR in line if he is on the roster.

Now they have 2 of the worst players in the league.

    Andrea Bargnani & Chris Smith
