Amare Stoudemire (knee) is expected to play against the Bobcats on Friday.
He's back to scrimmaging with the team and is finally progressing. Stoudemire likely isn't at 100 percent and considering the frequency in which he's dealt with knee problems, the Knicks aren't likely to turn him loose for much more than 20 minutes per night. He and J.R. Smith will be two of the more interesting players to watch at Madison Square Garden on Friday.Coach Mike Woodson said J.R. Smith is "ready to go" for Friday's preseason game.
He's been scrimmaging with the team this week and he looks to be ready for the regular season. Smith appears to have barely beaten his timetable from his summer knee surgery, so he could have been a nice value for those that drafted earlier this month. He will still serve his five-game suspension before trying to defend his Sixth Man of the Year crown. Tim Hardaway Jr. could get more minutes while J.R. Swish is out of the lineup.Raymond Felton is expected to play on Friday after missing Wednesday's game with a sore hamstring.
The injury doesn't sound serious and it looks like he'll be ready to go on opening night, barring a setback on Friday.Jeremy Tyler (broken foot) is still in a walking boot and won't be cleared to play for "a few weeks."
The good news is that New York seems inclined to keep him on the roster despite his injury. "We got to nurse him back and develop him and see if he can help us," said Mike Woodson. "We were high on him. Unfortunately he broke his foot. We owe him that. We got to do that. We got to wait and see."
