Tampa Bay traded a 2013 1st rd and a conditional 2014 3rd rd draft pick for Revis.
If Tampa releases Revis before the 3rd day of the 2014 league year, the 2014 draft pick will be downgraded from a 3rd rd to a 4th rd.
None of Revis' contract is guaranteed so if they're looking to shed salary, keep their 2nd day picks in tact, in order to rebuild, they might release him. Now, this is all speculation and silly speculation at that.
My question is if Tampa is dumb enough to cut ties with Revis after this year (for whatever reason like salary, circus-related or w/e), would you want the Jets to go after him in FA?
He's still fairly young and still very good. We do have cap space to sign him long-term if we wish.
Despite all that happened here, it seems like Revis and Rex had a good relationship. Revis' agents are dicks/jerks but even they can see that his on-field value is maximized in a Ryan defense and the market is obviously much bigger than Tampa's (among others).
So, basically, if we have a shot at Revis after the year, would you guys want the Jets FO to go after Revis?
I would be in to pick Revis back up if he was released. Sign Revis, restructure Cro, cut Wilson and replace with milliner. I would go to the table with 10 mil per and wouldn't go over 12 mil per. You want to come back to the Jets? you want to be part of what we're doing here? do you want to play for Rex again? do you want to be considered the Best again? It's a more then fair offer take it or leave it.
I personally would, but I think our FO is probably done with him. It is a shame to see him in TB playing a cover 2 zone in the flats, is Shiano serious? Shiano will probaby be fired and the new coach will probably make it a priority to use him the way he should be used.
I have been thinking about this before. Definitely sign revis at 13mil tops. Even though its already happened but wouldn't it have been amazing to have signed revis and draft richardson. Wow jets defense would be even better for sure.
