nearly half our defense are rookies (I still count Dougie). If we get the #2 defense that is funny as hell.

Boychuk? He's not great defensively. He benefits from playing with Chara

The Wild play a great system. Blues have a great line of defensemen as well. Can't forget about the Kings. Probably St. Louis here for me.

I had to go with the kings...it was close those, I was almost going to vote for St. Louis. I got St. Louis at #3, B's at #4 and Wild at #5

Our defense has been much better this year than it was last year though. Boychuck has silenced my hating on him and the rest of our guys are having much better years this year. Still don't see us at #2... But our defensemen have been much better when isolated this year. It's St.Louis here for me

Don't forget that forward's play a big part of a teams defense. Guys like Louis Eriksson, Bergeron really help Bostons defense.

    C'mon Tuukka.

The Bruins have a ton of talent and depth on there defense which is why it makes them #2 and is why Tuukka is so successful. He's got Chara, Boychuk, Seidenburg, Mcquaid, as well as the two youngsters Dougy and Krug. Not to mention they have great two way forwards.

^ Yes what I'm saying. They have some of the best two way forwards in the league which helps there D out a ton. #3 is gonna be tough for me.

Bruins are a great systematic defensive team that executes consistently. This does not mean they have an overwhelming line of talent in both ends of the ice, also doesn't make them #2 in the NHL with the goaltenders excluded.

The Blues have 3 defensemen in Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, and Bouwmeester that could be #1 in a lot of teams if they weren't in St. Louis. The three others in Jackman, Polak, and Leopold are no slouches either. These guys also play a great system with great players like Backes on offense helping out on 2 way play.

They made Halak and Elliott, yes Brian Elliott, look like all stars. That's not mainly the goaltending there, that's the defense.

Teams like the Kings and the Bruins have excellent goaltenders to start. Just looking at pure numbers and defensive executions (because it does say to exclude goaltending), it's an easy pick of the Blues for me.
