First off we would like to congratulate Tampa for making it this far into the playoffs. I believe that Staten Island is the superior team in this match up and will explain to you in the following paragraphs why I believe that is the case.
The reason we have made it this far into the playoffs is because of our excellent shooting and floor spacing; Durantís 0.657 TS%, David Westís 53% in the paint and 47% outside the paint and Shumpert is good for the spot up corner three at 0.403%. This recipe for success stretches out the defense and allows for our scorers (Durant West and Teague) to attack the defense in all facets of the game.
From a defensive perspective we have all the tools necessary to stop Tampa. Bradley isnít an offensive threat so we will have Teague matched up against him allowing us to throw Shumpert on Deron Williams. With an elite defender that is equal in size we feel we can minimize his best scoring threat. That leaves David Lee as their only other scoring option who we match up well with in David West; 2.3 RAPM and 96.4 def rating. With limited points from their two best scorers there is no way that Tampa holds up against our high powered offense.
Teague/Shumpert vs Williams/Bradley
We plan on putting Teague on Bradley and Shumpert on Williams. Williams will have a hard time going off against Shumpertís elite defense leaving Tampa without its best playmaker. Bradley is not a threat offensively so Teague should be more than adequate in preventing Teague from going off. On the other end Williams is not a great defender (RAPM -2.8 & def rating of 105) so Teague should be able to maintain his offensive production. If Bradley is thrown on Teague it limitís our offense a little bit however it will give us to some wide open looks by Shumpert from the 3.
Durant vs. Parsons
Parsons is considered a good defender, but there is no way he can even slow down Kevin Durant. In the recent playoff matchup between the two Durant averaged the following gaudy statline; 32.5 points on 48.5% shooting 7.8 rebounds 6 assists 1.0 block and 1.3 steals. Simply put Tampa doesnít have the offensive firepower to account for our efficient offense.
West vs. David Lee
Lee is a good offensive player, however his defense is so bad the we will win the matchup between the two. In their two matchups last season West averaged 25.5 points and 7.5 Boards to Leeís 12.5 and 12.
Kaman vs Sanders
Sanders is a good defensive player but his defense is wasted in this matchup. With Andersen and Kaman not being a primary focus of our offense there is no loss on our end and since Sanders isnít a good offensive player (less than 10 ppg) this matchup doesnít benefit either team.
