Sources: Leyland stepping down as Tigers manager today.

Press conference scheduled for 11:30. Apparently he told the team after the ALCS it was time for someone younger to take over.

One part of me says "Damn, we are really going to miss him", but at the same time they do need some one younger. Someone like Mike Matheny, or Joe Maddon is what they need. In the end, I really do think it will end up being for the better. I loved Leyland, but sometimes its just time to move on

This is the way this needed to happen. He gets to leave on his own terms. He's not fired or anything like that. With Leyland at the helm the Tigers were resurrected from the dead. We made 2 world series and 4 ALCS's in his time here. That's pretty damn good if you ask me. We just need to find a way to stop sucking when it matters most. I think GuySir mentioned this and I totally agree: If Leyland was fired it could end up being very bad for this team. The locker room clearly loves the guy, so it's very hard to fire someone everyone loves.

That said, young blood is going to be great for these guys. I think it will help further motivate everyone and we can continue to be competitive. Maybe we'll even run more!! haha...

Is there anyone in particular you guys want to take over?

I would think that this will be an easy job to fill as it has to be the most coveted of the managerial openings right now. So, we should be able to get a quality guy.

I wouldn't mind seeing Gibson back in Detroit, but after the Trammell experiment not sure if that's a good idea or just nostalgia talking.

Phil Nevin will get a look since he's been in our minor leagues for awhile and has been groomed for the job.

I love Gibson but he would not be a good fit for this particular team; our Tigers are older veterans and a little soft...Gibby would be far too intense for them. Not particularly crazy about the idea of Nevin, Brookens, or Ausmus either.

I think that David Martinez or Manny Acta or someone like them is going to be the best fit. We have so many Latin players and we need a guy that has a relevant perspective (at least looks at/considers sabermetrics).

So help me god if Gene Lamont or Mclendon take over I'll be very disappointed.

Here's a name we haven't heard in a while.. A guy with some fire, great knowledge of the game... Kenny Rogers anyone? It won't happen.. But I think he could be a good fit.

Dusty Baker might get some consideration (not that I want him).

This is the time that I really hate that Girardi was extended with the Yanks.
