That team came off of losing 90+ games, yet they still went out and signed FA's, and here they are in the World Series.
Did the Red Sox have some luck? Sure
Did guys like Victorino and Uehara have career years? Yes
But that's baseball, it always takes a little luck to win. However, if you as an organization address your holes in the off-season, then anything can happen.
Look at the Pirates or Indians, two teams not expected to win 90 games, yet both were in the playoffs. The Indians brass went out and improved their outfield and their manager situation, while the Pirates addressed their catching situation and took a flyer on Liriano.
Who's to say the Mets can't be right where the Sox, or even the Pirates or Indians in 2014? Sure Harvey is out; but you still have 2 good young pitchers in Niese and Gee. You have a touted prospect in Wheeler who shown some promise last year. If the Mets go out this off-season and address three of their four holes(1B; LF, RF, SP), then this team has a shot. In baseball, that's all you need, is a shot.
