Is he good?
Is he bad?
Why? Why not?
Links, stats, videos.
Why even go here. Hasn't EDS caused enough garbage the last few days.
That being said I hope some1 can show the stats backing up the belief that he has been bad this year. I've looked and can't find them. I'm going golfing or I'd re-post all the stats I've got.
First play on offense.
Aldon Smith sack. EDS decides to block nobody. Beast.
Second play. Guy goes right be him. He does his patented "block his back towards the ball" move which I think he invented.
Third play. Doubles on someone. Falls on his face. Stud.
Fourth play. Effective enough block, he gets beat and the guy goes by him but it was pretty late.
Fifth. Pass pro. Does nothing. Stands there. Touches a guy to look active.
Sixth. The first real plus he had. Good double team. Still, he wasn't blocking anyone heads up.
Seventh. Combo block with Sitton. Does fine. Sitton stood Smith up initially and then EDS helped keep him there. Good, nothing more.
Mike Daniels is the 7th best run defending 34DE in the NFL.
Johnny Jolly is almost last.
Sam Shields is the 70th best cover CB.
TJ Lang is the 6th best run blocking guard. Sitton is 40th.
Jeremy Ross is a better punt returner than Randall Cobb.
Don Barclay is a better pass protector than Don Barclay, Michael Roos, DBrick, Eugene Monroe, and Matt Kalil. He's also twice the right tackle that Anthony Davis is.
I could go on and on. PFF isn't proof of anything. It's full of anomalies.
Last year a top 10 center on their website couldn't find a job until there were injuries early in the season and he wasn't some super old guy either.
Kev calls it "stats" and "proof." I call it rubbish in the case of EDS. It just makes no sense.
For what its worth:
Tyler Dunne @TyDunne
McCarthy says Dietrich-Smith "off to an excellent start." And that's it. More on our site later.
Honestly I have never been a fan of EDS I never thought he was a starter but more of a serviceable backup and that is about it. I really hope that Tretter can beat him out or maybe bring in someone through draft or FA to replace EDS
Sam Shields allowed how over 260 yards in the first 2 weeks. Part of the problem was not having a legitimate safety behind him but those are still on him. So of course he isn't highly ranked.
Cobb has returned 3 punts for 23 yards and Ross 2 for 20. Is it that surprising he is SLIGHTLY higher ranked than Cobb?

Just explain how GB can be first in the NFL in YPC running the A-Gap if EDS is that bad? You can't praise Sitton and Lang and say they can make up for all downfalls and STILL be that good. He has to contribute to even come close to being the best running team in the NFL in the A-Gap.
