    NLDS Cardinals vs Pirates

I'll try to have a fancy game thread later, but I don't have time right now.

    Discuss the NLDS here.

I think game 1 is very important. Shut the pirates down and get doubts in their head, a total beat down, 7-1, 10-3. Something like that.

Bird Bytes: Miller or Wacha? Follow the changeup

It’ll be interesting to see how manager Mike Matheny sets his NLDS rotation for Games 3 and 4 in Pittsburgh.

As you know, Adam Wainwright and Lance Lynn will start the first two games at Busch Stadium. That puts Wainwright in line for a potential Game 5 at Busch.

Matheny’s choice of Lynn over Shelby Miller for Game 2 created some buzz.

I think you have to start Wacha and Kelly in 3/4 in either order.

I know it sounds weird to leave Miller in the bullpen but it's 1 series and he just matches up bad with the pirates. Kelly and Wacha have to start those games IMO even though Miller is the best pitcher of the 3 right now it just a bad match up

Bernie's article about it was great.

miller can be used in the pen and then return to the rotation in the NLCS if we advance

I would think he would, obviously he would be disappointed for sure but it's not like anyone is saying he's bad don't face him vs the pirates.

It's just a bad match up, it happens. And we could very well see it being Miller over Wacha but that would be a mistake IMO

Miller is a fastball pitcher and he likes to use his fastball often and work in a curve, he is working on some other pitches but now isn't the time and the pirates are a fastball killing team.

Fastballs up in the zone could be very bad, look what happened to that dumb **** Cueto

    From DGoold

Miller and Wacha will be available game 1 for relief work, Kelly will start game 3, there's time for rest between game 1 and 4 so both could pitch in relief if needed

    Roster:

    Position players:

    Carpenter
    Holliday
    Beltran
    Jay
    Freese
    Descalso
    Molina
    Kozma
    Adams
    Cruz
    Robinson
    Chambers
    Wong

    Starters:

    Wainwright
    Lynn
    Kelly
    Miller
    Wacha

Wacha or Miller will be in bullpen first round, likely starter after this round

    Bullpen:

    Rosenthal
    Mujica
    Siegrist
    Maness
    Axford
    Choate
    Martinez

is anyone else not surprised at all that Lynn is starting game 2? Everyone seems to be making a big deal out of it, but the idea of Lynn going game 2 seemed pretty obvious to me.

    9-3 2.82 era at home

    6-7 5.15 era away

^ before looking at Shelby Miller's stats I was shocked but after seeing how be was roughed up by the pirates it's not so shocking

It's the right call IMO after looking at Miller's numbers. Wainwright and Lynn give us a great chance to take the first 2 games and Kelly has been good vs pirates. If we can just get a couple runs vs liriano in game 3 we could have a legit shot in taking it in 3

I'd love it if we swept them... I think it's gonna go five though for some reason...

I have class from 3:30-6, so I'll miss most of the game.

Today has been a crappy day. Let's hope the game goes better.

    I have a feeling Cardinals in 4.

I don't think the pirates rotation is as good as ours and if we are only facing liriano 1 time in think we are in really good shape.

But I do think we only lose these 2 games at home if we cost ourselves by not driving in the runs or Bad defense or something like that.

So right now I'm really thinking cards in 4
