Could someone please answer this for me ?
Please don't tell me it's because he is 4-0, because Alex Smith takes flack every week on this site for being the same type of quarterback as Wilson.
I have been saying it since last year, Wilson is a glorified game manager who will never put up huge numbers but will always keep his team in the game. Once in a while he will pop off a huge passing game when his team is behind, but the rest of the time he will be around 200 YPG with a touchdown and a maybe a pick.
Have you been paying attention to Russell Wilson's numbers this year ?
Less than 200 yards passing/game
A mediocre 61.5% completion percentage
Only 6 TD passes thrown through 4 games or 1.5/game.
Now I don't normally like to do this, but take the Jaguars game out of the mix where any QB would find success.
He would be sporting a 77 QB Rating, he would only have two touchdown passes thrown in three games, he would have a completion percentage of 56.7, a QBR rating of 39.17 ... etc ...
Do you see my point ?
We are so quick to say Kaepernick and RGIII are having poor starts when Wilson's shortcomings are being completely overlooked because of his excellent rush game and stellar defense.
Wilson is very similar to Alex Smith in the sense that if he is in the right situation, he will succeed. He is the perfect fit for the current Seahawks squad with their hard nosed style of football. But take Wilson and put him in a situation where he would have to throw the ball 30-35 times per game and he would be a bottom 10 QB (statistically).
I really do like Wilson as a person, in fact he is one of the more likable figures in the league right now. But, lets not be too quick to crown him one of the best young QB's in the league when he is putting up very average numbers during his teams hot start.
