D'Antoni..."Dissed" and "over looked"..."we should play with a chip on our shoulder"

Mike D’Antoni: ‘We Should Have A Chip On Our Shoulder’

In an interview with TWC Sportsnet’s Jaime Maggio, Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni discussed numerous topics about the upcoming season including his anxiousness to start the season and the team having a chip on their shoulder.

With so many new players, there’s always the challenge of trying to mesh individual talents together, but D’Antoni is more anxious than anything to get the season started:

“Just anxious to go. We’ve been, they’ve been in most of the month of September. We’re getting a good feel of their personalities and how they are and individually how they perform. Now let’s see if their individual talents can mesh with each other.”

The Lakers have low expectations heading into this season and D’Antoni believes everyone should have a chip on their shoulder, including the coaching staff:

“I think they should. We have some talented players that either have been overlooked or been dissed a little bit. We should have a chip on our shoulder. A lot of us. Coaching staff included. We have some things to prove and that’s what we’ll try to do.”

D’Antoni is very excited about the athleticism and three-point shooting the Lakers brought in this off-season, which will bring an exciting type of basketball. The Lakers coach believes Nick Young is one of the best scorers and talents in this league, but will stress the importance of ball movement. He also looks forward to Wesley Johnson having a break-out season as a former lottery pick in 2010.

Everyone from management to the players have an understanding of the situation at hand and are extremely motivated. Most are already in the practice facility preparing to exceed low expectations. If this team can stay healthy and Mike D’Antoni coaches to the team’s strengths, this year’s Lakers have the opportunity to surprise a lot of people.

I've been saying the same thing since day 1. Couldn't agree more with Dantoni. Everybody keeps going off what happened last year with the princess and forgetting that the lakers have 3 future hall of famers surrounded by youth and athleticism. Mark my words; this team is going to finish in the top 4 this season in the west. And for all
of those so called lakers fans who talk trash and dont believe in the lakers, well then u must not be true lakers fans. Lake show is coming alive baby! We gonna have an exciting year.

    Hey lakerfanatico,
Preach on, bro. Let's get this sh_t on the road.

Our vets have maximum skill and smarts. Our newbies can show their true team-spirit by running their arses off on both sides of the ball, out-of-respect and love for them. IF the injuries stay minimal, this is going to be FUN!

I vote we move the start of the season up a couple of weeks; I just can't wait any damned longer.

Health is everything. We need Kobe, Pau and Nash at 100% for any shot at the playoffs.

    Hey shep33,
Never been truer of any team!

If the three of them super-click (like we always hoped); that'd be one of the most beautiful b-ball experiences ever (even if they don't dominate the win-loss columns; though that'd be even a lot more beautiful).

Wow, 5K a year for a 5 year stretch ... (got my work cut out for me; but will I even be around 5 years from now???)

    Congrats on 25K !

D'Antoni is 100% correct, It is up to him to get them in that mindset from day one. He should have the press clippings up, He should be constantly banging that into their heads, He should be telling them how the press and other teams think they are trash players and will be one of the worst teams in the West. Then he and the F/O should tell them...."But we feel different" and use the old Oakland Raiders attitude. It's gonna be us against you....And you ain't got a chance. We are gonna destroy every thing in our path and their ain't a damn thing you can do about it.

This is the attitude that every player must have. They will need to lay it on the line every night. None of the we can turn it on when we need to shiotte. They cannot say...We we got Kobe, It will be all good. They must have the attitude of Kobe is here and that's great...But we will prove we can win even if he is not at his best all of the time. All hands on deck, 7 days to lift off. As the great Marvin Gaye and boxing ref Judge Mills Lane would say..."Let's get it on"

This is by far the most athletic team we've had in many seasons. I am excited to see the mix of young talent with our veterans. Kobe-Nash-Pau will be true leaders of this team and they won't have cry baby Howard to cause chaos in the locker room. You have pretty much everyone playing for a contract, and guys who have been "dissed" etc. LET'S GO!
Tanking is the act of giving up a match or "throwing it away", losing intentionally or not competing.

    This is not tanking...

Dream on! The problem is not the players,is the coach! He thinks that he can revive his up tempo shooting crazy system on a very old washed out point guard! He will have to rely again on Kobe and he will kill him again on his quest to prove what many of us know. He is is the problem!
    The future?

    Hey! New Power House,
    Right on Bro,
Those who believe we are top 4 are dreaming. One of the problem we had last year was our coach and we didnt address that problem. This coach was making bad decision after another one not a very good coach. I like the lakersbut I have to be real, we are lucky if we even get the 8th spot no way we are in the top 4. This team is going to be exciting to watch no question..

Keep dreaming u all. Even when the lakers suck u guys always think they are going to win. Lol. I can still recall people saying don't worry year after year come June we will be ok when I kept saying trade Bynum, keep farmer, get an athletic sf to help Kobe, sign Beasley, etc. this team will be challenged defensively, Nash 40 and Kobe Fresh off a major injury is a disaster, they lack that difference maker off the bench. They had no interest at this time. They have players to play in mike system and if healthy they will make the playoffs but not 4th seed lol. As good as lakers think they are other teams are better. They are playing a style that makes them blend in they hold no advantage. In short the healthy more talented teams that play defense will be ahead of them.

I will never take D'Antoni seriously until he shaves off that "gay 80s porn" mustache.
