Atlanta Braves @Chicago Cubs
Friday, 9/20 2:20 PM
Paul Maholm, LHP (10-10, 4.35 ERA) vs Scott Baker, RHP (0-0, 0.82 ERA)
Maholm has his spot in the rotation skipped Friday and will open a three-game set in Chicago against the team he made 20 starts for in 2012. He holds a 12-4 record with a 3.99 ERA in 22 career starts at Wrigley Field.
Saturday, 9/21 4:05 PMThis is expected to be Baker's third and final start of 2013. The righty threw 75 pitches over six innings vs. the Bucs in his last start, giving up three hits and striking out four. His velocity was up a tad, and he was healthy -- all good points.
Kris Medlen, RHP (14-12, 3.32 ERA) vs Travis Wood, LHP (9-11, 3.05 ERA)
Since Tim Hudson went down for the season July 24, Medlen is 8-2 with a 2.44 ERA and has won eight of his last nine starts. He mixed all three of his pitches Saturday en route to 7 1/3 shutout innings in a 2-1 victory over the Padres.
Wood notched his 23rd quality start in his last outing, but did not get a decision vs. the Bucs. The lefty has fared better on the road than at Wrigley, compiling a 4-8 record and 3.53 ERA at home. This will be his first career start vs. the Braves.
Sunday, 9/22 2:20 PM
Julio Teheran, RHP (12-8, 3.14 ERA) vs Edwin Jackson, RHP (8-16, 4.75 ERA)
With a 4.21 ERA in his last four starts, Teheran has struggled to return to the consistency he displayed just before the All-Star break. He is now 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA and an 0.909 WHIP in five day game starts this year.
In his last start against the Brewers, Jackson was lifted after 76 pitches over four innings, and not happy about the quick hook. Jackson led the Majors in losses -- he's running out of time to finish strong.
