    Matt Harvey and Qualcomm

Video of Dan Patrick's show is in the link

The roller coaster ride of a season for Matt Harvey continued on Wednesday.

He appeared on "The Dan Patrick Show" to chat. But when Patrick began asking about his injury -- which Harvey chose to rehab instead of going through Tommy John surgery -- the Mets hurler tried to steer the direction toward Qualcomm, the telecommunications company he was promoting.

"I did all those answers yesterday and maybe at the appropriate time, we can talk a little more about that, but obviously, today's about Qualcomm," he said when asked if it's scary to hear about the possibility of Tommy John surgery.
Harvey later took to Twitter to apologize:

    Matt Harvey ✔ @MattHarvey33

Iíve had a few rough outings on the mound, that was a rough outing on the radio this morning...

    Matt Harvey ✔ @MattHarvey33

Been an exhausting couple of days. Apologies to @dpshow and @Qualcomm
    LOL

    WTF are you doing Harvey?

Could Qualcomm sponsor your TJ surgery if you need to have one? lmao

...and this is from today when Harvey went back on the show.

    http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/201...bow_rehab.html

On Wednesday, Matt Harvey got attention for all the wrong reasons with an interview he did on "The Dan Patrick Show", avoiding questions regarding his partially torn UCL and trying to focus on promoting Qualcomm.

Thursday, Harvey got a chance, appearing on the show once again and talked about what he's going through. The pitcher started off apologizing for yesterday's interview and talked about why he decided to rehab the injury instead of surgery. He also talked about reacting to hearing about his injury: "For every pitcher, I think that's kind of the last thing you want to hear. And it was kind of the last thing I expected to hear."

Maybe the Mets and his agent should be advising the kid a bit better - like, hey kid, don't go on the radio right now since you're obviously pretty distraught. Hang low for a while and get out of the spotlight.

Instead of asking him to do Qualcomm attached promo appearances, a little guidance would be good.

As a PR professional who often sets up interviews with celebrity spokespeople, I know first hand how this happens, which is more often than you'd think.

It's generally caused by very poor media training on the part of the PR people handling the celebrity. He should have been counseled on what types of questions he could expect; that they would want to talk about the surgery, and that he'll also have an opportunity talk about his clients messages as well.

I blame the folks who handled this for Qualcomm. They were probably overbearing with the opportunity and he most likely felt unduly obligated to make sure he spoke about nothing else than Qualcomm.

Weird but no big deal. As FoC stated, he was handled poorly, and clearly Harvey realized that this came across poorly. Whatever. He'll learn from this. Hopefully he gets that arm healthy.

    Correct on both counts.

Still hilarious and super weird. And it did occur on a baseball field. I stand by my assertion.
