    San Diego Padres (66-79) @ Atlanta Braves (88-58) 9/13-9/15

    @

San Diego Padres @ Atlanta Braves

    Friday, 9/13 7:30 PM

    Ian Kennedy, RHP (3-1, 3.76 ERA)vs David Hale, RHP (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Kennedy has pitched well since being traded to the Padres from the D-backs on July 31. Five of his first seven starts since the trade have come at Petco Park. He has a 5.79 ERA against the Braves in two starts this season.

Hale will make his first career appearance in place of Paul Maholm, who is dealing with left elbow discomfort. Hale, a suburban Atlanta native, posted a 3.17 ERA in 20 starts with Triple-A Gwinnett this year.

    Saturday, 9/14 7:10 PM

    Robbie Erlin, LHP (2-2, 5.56 ERA)vs Kris Medlen, RHP (13-12, 3.46 ERA)

September continues to be a tryout for 2014 and Erlin has fared well during this period. He's allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last four starts. As a lefty, he's done better establishing his fastball to righties.

Medlen has distanced himself from his previous struggles while allowing two runs or fewer in four of his past five starts. He has not allowed an earned run in the 17 innings he's totaled in two career starts against San Diego.

    Sunday, 9/15 1:35 PM

    Burch Smith, RHP (0-1, 9.17 ERA)vs Julio Teheran, RHP (12-7, 3.05 ERA)

Smith, a rookie, allowed two runs in the first inning of his last start against the Rockies, then followed it up with four scoreless innings. He's done a better job of slowing the game down since struggles early this season.

Teheran allowed three first-inning runs and then just two more hits in 6 2/3 innings against the Marlins on Tuesday. The Braves had skipped his previous turn to refresh him as he prepares for the stretch run and postseason.

No excuse for the Braves not taking 2, at least.

I'll be interested to see how Hale performs. San Diego isn't a big step up from AAA, so maybe he'll pitch well.

    #Braves lineup:
    Schafer 8,
    JUpton 9,
    Freeman 3,
    Gattis 7,
    McCann 2,
    CJohnson 5,
    Simmons 6,
    EJohnson 4,
    Hale 1

and B.J and Uggs back to the bench. FREDO probably wants to wrap up the division before he sends them back out there with regular at-bats...can live with that.

Young man throws a gem and the bullpen gives up 4 in 3 innings so far. Nationals already won so we need to win this one. Not looking good right now down to 5 ours and we have Loe warming up. Lose and lead down to 10 games. We need to start taking care of business. I hope we wrap this thing up soon. Dragging on here lately giving the Nationals hope. Wow, 5 straight k's.

I don't think Walden's groin is healthy. Someone check it...with their foot.

It gets interesting in the 9th, but the Phillies hold on and win.

    Magic number down to 4.

With David Hale and Freddy Garcia i think we won't see Loe start a game again, that's great.
