The Jays will be playing on GRASS within 5 years time

A renewed lease for the Toronto Argonauts to play at Rogers Centre will effectively serve as notice to vacate, clearing the way for grass to be installed for baseball no later than 2018.

The Toronto Blue Jays have determined it is possible to grow and maintain a grass playing surface inside the facility by digging up the floor, adding a drainage system and topping it with about 30 centimetres of dirt.

Paul Beeston confirmed this in the offseason. If i remember correctly, he stated that the Jays will play on grass in 3-5 years. Why 3-5 years? Beeston stated that he wanted to give the Toronto Argonauts adequate time to find a new "home"

This is terrible news. Why not just tell the Argos to ****** off.

    I pity the training staff.

Could be 3 ? That's plenty of time to find a home for the Argos who only draw 20,000 fans. But how long are we tied into the Bills deal of a game a year here. I just think 3 years is possible!

That's the part I don't get. The Bills are here for either four or five more seasons after this, that's not changing even if the Argos were to relocate by tomorrow. All the talk about the possibility of it happening in less than 5 years seems bogus.

Exactly, why would Beeston even dangle 3 or 4 years in front of everyone when the Bills deal is for longer than that, unless there is an out clause, and based on the problems selling these games out at NFL prices EVER, maybe a mutual agreement to cancel after the next 2 years won't be so much of a problem!

Why does it even matter about the Bills and Argos? They can't play on grass? They can't keep it dual purpose with grass?

The wait is for the Argos to find a new place to play. If that wasn't the case and if the Bills thing went away, they could put in the grass in a year or 2. But they have to give the Argos time and who knows what the Bills situation is.
