Washington Nationals (73-69) -New York Mets (64-77)
Gonzalez: Gonzalez threw a lot of pitches -- 118 -- in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday in Philadelphia. His saving grace was the changeup and it helped him win his ninth game of the season.
Torres: Torres was terrific in his second start since rejoining the rotation, but a pair of late homers doomed him Tuesday in Atlanta. Though the Mets prefer using Torres out of the bullpen, he will remain in the rotation for now.
Zimmermann: Zimmermann looks for his National League-best 17th win. In his last start, he allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings for the victory over the Phillies. He lost to the Mets on Aug. 30 after giving up three runs in seven frames.
Gee: Since May 30, Gee is 9-3 with a 2.40 ERA, 87 strikeouts and 26 walks in 123 2/3 innings. That ranks him near Jose Fernandez, Clayton Kershaw and a handful of others as one of the best pitchers in baseball over that span.
Haren: Haren holds the second-highest ERA in baseball. After a solid couple of months, he has struggled in back-to-back short outings. In a loss to Miami, he gave up five in three innings. He has surrendered a National League-high 26 home runs.
Wheeler: Despite tying a season high with five walks on Friday, Wheeler limited damage against the Indians, who wound up with five hits and three runs (two earned) off the rookie. Wheeler had three strikeouts in his five innings, and left after 92 pitches.
Roark: Roark pitched six scoreless innings in his first Major League start, a win over the Marlins. He has made 10 appearances for the Nationals since being called up. He earned himself another start after his strong outing in which he scattered four hits.
Niese: Niese gave up five runs (four earned) in the first inning of his start Saturday in Cleveland. In the second, he served up a solo shot to Nick Swisher, but went on to throw four scoreless afterward. In six frames, he had two walks and five strikeouts.
