MINNEAPOLIS - Blue Jays assistant general manager Andrew Tinnish and pro scout Danny Evans, former GM of the Chicago White Sox, were in Japan last month scouting Masahiro Tanaka.
Tanaka may be the next Japanese starter to come to North America if his contract is posted by the Tohuku Rakuten Golden Eagles this winter.
Tanaka, who turns 25 on Nov. 1, is 19-0 with a 1.20 ERA in 22 starts.
The New York Yankees have seen a number of Tanaka's starts. The Texas Rangers have shown interest as well, although Tanaka is not to be considered to be as talented as Rangers' Yu Darvish, for whom the Rangers bid $51.7 million US and then signed to a six-year, $56 million contract.
Tanaka, in his seventh season, has walked 25 and struck out 144 in 172 innings.
I knew this was gonna happen.
