    Buster Posey has fractured finger

SAN FRANCISCO Ė X-rays revealed that Buster Posey has a ďsmall fractureĒ on the tip of his right finger, but the Giantsí catcher and reigning NL MVP remains hopeful he can return to the lineup within a few days.

ďFrom everything Iím hearing, hopefully in a couple days itíll calm down and I can play through it,Ē said Posey, who was struck on his bare hand in the sixth inning Tuesday when a pitch from Madison Bumgarner bounced off the plate.

Poseyís finger remained sore; the impact of the pitch ripped half his fingernail from the nail bed. When it didnít show much improvement Thursday, Giants head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner suggested they check for a fracture.

ďItís not displaced, so itíll correct itself,Ē said Posey, who might wear a hard plastic piece when he returns.

Posey didnít think that throwing would be a problem. As for swinging, he said he hasnít tried to grip a bat since Tuesday. But the fact itís his top hand is encouraging.

ďIím hopeful itís manageable,Ē Posey said.

Posey was just starting to turn a corner after a mostly sluggish second half in which heís hit just one home run. He was 2 for 3 on Tuesday and has a .412 average over his last nine games, although his streak without a homer is now at 129 at-bats since his last one July 20.

Itís been a bad year for fingers. Ryan Vogelsong missed three months after a pitch crushed the pinkie on his pitching hand in several places May 20. And second baseman Marco Scutaro tore a tendon in his left pinkie when struck by a pitch in June; Scutaro missed a couple days but decided to play through the injury, which will leave him with a permanently bent fingers.

Thatís one reason there have been fewer high fives in the Giants dugout this year.

No reason to have Posey play through this, even if its a minor fracture...

    Murphy's Law.
So Anna, what do you think about the notion that Russell Wilson is better than Andrew Luck?

I believe Sabean likes to refer to it as maintaining a "winning atmosphere".

Sanchez could use more work so let our franchise player heal properly.

Would you trust a blind scout? Of course you wouldn't but that's what you do when you simply go by stats
Splifftone, OptiskeptSF and Ciaban have a lot in common

This requires thinking about the future, which is a novel concept to this management.
Today is the future that you have built (or neglected) yesterday.

I guess he could be back in a few more days, but why bother? He isn't in the MVP running, there is no milestone that he is chasing, no playoffs, **** it! Just let HACKtor drive tank the rest of the way.

"Having a healthy Posey and Pagan in '14 is just like signing two elite free agents" has Sabean said that yet?

Don't forget a healthy Scutaro and Vogelsong. That's 4 huge acquisitions!
