Colts sign WR Da'Rick Rogers and acquire OLB Cam Johnson from San Francisco

    Rogers:

The Indianapolis Colts today signed wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers to the practice squad and waived wide receiver Nathan Palmer from Injured Reserve with an injury settlement.

Rogers, 6-3, 205 pounds, was first signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2013 before being waived on August 26. In three collegiate seasons, he posted 139 receptions for 2,100 yards and 21 touchdowns in 36 games played. Rogers played two seasons at the University of Tennessee (2010-11) before transferring to Tennessee Tech for one year (2012).

As a sophomore in 2011, Rogers started all 12 games and led the Southeastern Conference with 67 receptions for 1,040 yards and ranked second with nine receiving touchdowns. He became just the sixth player in Tennessee history to post a 1,000-yard receiving season en route to earning Associated Press First Team All-SEC honors. As a junior in 2012, Rogers tied the Tennessee Tech single-season record for receiving touchdowns (10), while finishing third in receptions (61) and fourth in receiving yards (893).

Palmer was signed by the Colts off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad on September 24, 2012. Last season, he caught one pass in five games played.
The Indianapolis Colts today acquired linebacker Cam Johnson in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a conditional draft pick.

Johnson, 6-3, 268 pounds, was originally a seventh-round selection (237th overall) of the 49ers in the 2012 NFL Draft. Last season, he spent the first 14 games of the year on the 49ers practice squad before being elevated to the active roster on December 22. Johnson saw action in the final two regular season games but did not record any statistics.

Johnson played in 42 games (34 starts) at the University of Virginia and registered 130 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, seven passes defensed, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. As a senior in 2011, he started all 12 games and led the team with 4.0 sacks and 11.0 tackles for loss. As a junior in 2010, Johnson was named an All-ACC third-team selection by the Roanoke Times after totaling a career-high 53 tackles, while leading the team in sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (14.5).

    Both seem like good moves.
So Anna, what do you think about the notion that Russell Wilson is better than Andrew Luck?

    Pagano:

Pagano: LB Cam Johnson can play strong-side or rush linebacker.

Pagano on Da'Rick Rogers: "We're giving him an oppty. The ball's in his court... We had a conversation about that."

Rogers' seems to have all the ability and physical gifts to succeed...just needs to get his head screwed on right? Hopefully Indy can do just that? Low risk/High reward move.

Johnson had like 2 sacks and blocked punt for td in the pre season finale....I like his size and wonder who ges cut to make room for him?
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

Colts announced it was Justice Cunningham. Not surprising considering they signed a TE earlier. It's tough to be the 53rd guy on a roster. Never safe.

Good! That means Allen and Fleener both are a go to start the season!

Yep, check the game thread. I posted an update there. Allen is a full participant and Fleener also practiced.

Da'Rick has insane upside. He can be the next Garcon.

Hopefully with better hands..I remember how Garcon always seemed to drop easy ones but somehow come down with amazing catches at times.

Da'Rick Robinson was a 5 star top 10 overall recruit out of HS and I think the #2 WR overall that year as far as recruiting goes...not all of those guys pan out for various reasons, but this isn't like we are looking at some random guy that somehow happened to get picked up. At one time he was regarded as one of, if not the top player his age at his position. At the combine he was a top 5 performer in every major event with the exception of 40 time and bench reps.. So in raw athletic ability he is all there....

If this guy can get his head on straight we may have a really exciting WR on our hands.

Unfortunately his character sucks. Why would he change here? I guess it's a no risk signing, with humongous potential but im not expecting him to take a sudden 180

Nope the exact same hands. He would drop a curl route all day but make one handed circus catches that would amaze you.
