It still has to scare you. It could scare you for a bunch of reasons. Despite how he's feeling, reoccuring injuries. Another is, he may not be the same player. He may change his style up or so on. David Booth for example, while the scoring was up at the time and he was the main guy in Florida pretty much, he's a different player.

Great news that Ryan Kesler is healthy though. Hopefully he can return to form. These things are really scare and potential long-term injuries however, surgery or not. I doubt I watch too many Canuck games this season, but I'll try and catch Kes. Big fan.

Kesler just plays hard all the time. Maybe we can get another one of those great seasons.

    Van Sun article:

For the first time in forever — or least a couple of years — Ryan Kesler will be coming to training camp completely healthy.

In an interview from this week’s U.S. Olympic orientation camp in Arlington, Va., Kesler said he’s feeling great.

“Yeah, two years, finally healthy,” Kesler told the NHL Network. “It feels good to have a full summer of training under my belt for the first time in who knows how long. It’s positive, everything is positive on my front.”

That is good news for the Canucks, who need to see the Kesler of old if they are to be serious Stanley Cup contenders this season.

Kesler had a 41-goal, 73-point season and won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in helping lead the Canucks to the Stanley Cup finals in 2011. But his production has dropped off dramatically since then and he has battled a series of injuries.

In 2011-12, Kesler had 22 goals and 49 points. Kesler was recovering from two off-season surgeries last season and played just 17 regular-season games. He had four goals and 13 points.

Kesler expressed confidence that Roberto Luongo will put the team’s goaltending soap opera behind him and play well this season as the Canucks’ No. 1 guy.

“It was nice having two elite goaltenders like we had, but there’s only one net,” Kesler said.”It’s tough to see a good friend like Cory (Schneider) go. He was well-liked by everyone in that locker-room. That’s the business side of the game.

“Roberto is an all-star goaltender and is more than capable of taking over that job. He’s proved it before and he’s going to prove it again.”

Kesler also sounded excited about the prospect of playing under new Vancouver coach John Tortorella. The two are not complete strangers. Kesler played on the 2010 U.S. Olympic team and Tortorella was an assistant coach.

“I have spoken to him a couple of times and he is going to hold everybody accountable, which I like,” Kesler said. “He expects hard work and he expects everybody to play the same way, which is hard, intense work and everybody blocks shots. It’s going to be good.”

Or get hurt in two games.

    ....

You and I know the role of the fan is to imagine the perfect season. I'm not playing my role.

I hope this team kills it this year, with veterans leading youth. I just haven't seen Kes perform at All Star level for more than about 20-30 games at a stretch. And I've never really seen him lead, despite all the calls for him to become captain a few years ago.

I'm not a Kesler believer but I would love to imagine that his heart gets transplanted into a younger Gaunce or Horvat body.

He's a hot head, but he also leads by example. You can cite all the diving and stuff he does, but I think that was a team wide philosophy. Maybe AV told his players to do that **** to sell calls since Canucks were one of the bottom teams in drawing penalties. Let's see how he does with Tortorella. Not sure, how much Torts' teams dove in the past, but I'm excited to see what he can bring out of Kesler.
