A's: Griffin struggled in his last start Wednesday against the Mariners. He took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and four walks in six innings. Griffin leads the Majors with 30 home runs allowed this season.Other guys: Sanchez was strong in a no-decision Wednesday against the Twins, allowing one run on six hits with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, lowering his season ERA to 2.45.

A's: Milone took a no-decision after allowing three runs -- one earned -- on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings against the Indians on Aug. 18. The lefty, who will be going on eight days' rest, has a 5.00 ERA on the road.Other guys: Verlander struggled in his last outing on Thursday, allowing six runs on 10 hits in seven innings while striking out six. Otherwise, he's pitched well this month. He has won his last four starts against Oakland.

A's: Straily escaped with a no-decision after yielding six runs on four hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings on Friday against the Orioles. He has just one quality start in his past six outings, his ERA rising from 4.14 to 4.56 in that span.Other guys: Fister battled in his last start against the Mets but still pitched well. He allowed only one run on eight hits, finishing with four strikeouts. He's given up two runs or fewer in six of his last eight starts.

Bartolo Colon__________Max Scherzer
A's: This will be Colon's first start off the disabled list, where the righty spent 15 days with cheeseburgeritis. In his two outings prior, he gave up 10 earned runs in a combined 6 2/3 innings, after surrendering nine in his previous 49 1/3 frames.Other guys: Scherzer held down the Mets in his last start, striking out 11 over six scoreless, three-hit innings. He has 16 double-digit strikeout games this season. Scherzer also hasn't allowed more than three runs in a game since July 13.
