Believe it or not this is the next to last home stand of the season. Where has this magical season gone? We are saving the big guns for the Cardinals series so it it will be up to the small guns to handle the Brewers. By the way the Cardinals start their gauntlet today. They don't play a non Pirates or Reds team until September 10th. In essence over these next two weeks or so they can either win the division or fall out of it completely.

I can't believe it but today is the 10th anniversary of when the Pirates traded Brian Giles to the Padres. Can't believe it has really been that long ago. The Pirates got Jason Bay, Oliver Perez and Cory Stewart in that deal. Obviously the first two are the key names there.

Should be a very interesting two weeks with the Cards playing no one else but the Bucs and Reds. Probably just ends up with a lot of beating each other up between the three teams. Could be some movement in the standings...but I just don't have that feeling.

    Either way, go Bucs!

Craig with a grand slam it looks like the Pirates will find themselves in second place for the first time this month.

Wow! Pirates trade for John Buck and Marlon Byrd. No clue what they gave up yet.

Dilson Herrera and a PTBNL. Not bad.

Not too thrilled with giving up Herrera but its not a back breaker by any stretch.

Even with the trade there is a game to be played tonight. Obviously Byrd and Buck won't be available tonight so it is the same roster as it has been. Interestingly enough Jones gets the day off today vs a right handed starter. Perhaps Hurdle is trying to get him out of his current funk. Besides Sanchez batting in Jones normal spot and Lambo in RF the lineup is the new usual one.

    1. Jose Tabata (R) LF
    2. Neil Walker (S) 2B
    3. Andrew McCutchen (R) CF
    4. Pedro Alvarez (L) 3B
    5. Russell Martin (R) C
    6. Gaby Sanchez (R) 1B
    7. Andrew Lambo (L) RF
    8. Jordy Mercer (R) SS
    9. Jeff Locke (L) P

    And of course ...

    The Bad Guys
    1. Norichika Aoki (L) RF
    2. Jean Segura (R) SS
    3. Jonathan Lucroy (R) C
    4. Aramis Ramirez (R) 3B
    5. Carlos Gomez (R) CF
    6. Khris Davis (R) LF
    7. Yuniesky Betancourt (R) 1B
    8. Scooter Gennett (L) 2B
    9. Kyle Lohse (R) P

Well this isn't exactly good news

Starling Marte will not need surgery, but it will be two weeks before he said he can start swinging again. #Pirates

My dad managed to snag some tickets to tomorrow night's game prior to hearing anything about the trade. Funny how it will (should) be Byrd's debut

No it isn't but at least Tabata has been hitting well lately and with the acquisition of Byrd, it should lessen the blow and we can weather the storm until he returns
