Is it time we need to put a cap in baseball? I know this may sign ironic, but I don't want to see players get overpaid on deals that last till they are 35-39 yrs old. As a Yankee fan, I don't want to see anymore deals like CC Sabathia, Mark Texiera, and AJ Burnett occur for the long term. A-Roid's current contract was a fail too. The old method of buying players is no longer viable at this point in time. I want my Yankees to go younger and build on speed, pitching, and small ball. We also need a salary floor to avoid the Marlins putting on a lousy team with Gorkys Hernandez or some scrub from their AA affiliate playing. In what world are Justin Ruggiano and Gorkys Hernandez starting? Hockey has the best salary cap. As a Panther fan, they made the playoffs after spending money instead of just being cheapskates. Look at other bad deals across baseball: Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Barry Zito, etc. The time has come to reel in the spending issues and bidding wars of baseball.
Ok, sure bad deals happen, but it lowers the chances of some player getting $30 mill again in this sport.
so? the dollar amount doesnt matter as much as percentage of team salary.you put in a cap of total team salary of say 70 mil, there will some owners willing to dole out 15-20 mil contracts, while its not 30 mil its just as damaging/if not more damaging to the team than a 30 mil contract with no cap
