His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."

LOL. If he can keep his bat up, he can be a bonafide starting centerfielder.

Daniel Murphy vs. Jordanny Valdespin for 2B next year. Discuss.
Sandy Alderson says Mets' 2014 payroll will be more than $87 million

This post has sat unanswered for over an hour on an active board, so my guess is that no one took it seriously, and unless Murphy was traded for an upgrade defensively Valdespin wouldn't be the replacement in any case. Valdespin IMO is an ex-Met awaiting the executioners axe. The minor league theatrics carried over to the ML level and closed with JV telling TC to go.....himself.

Giving validity to Murphy defensively is mission impossible. However, offensively he is a extreme streaky hitter who when hot can compensate for his defense. Murph is now out of a cold period (6/1-7/9) during which he hit .219/.256/.290). Since then he has hit .407/.439/.648 over the past 2 weeks. Driving in 11 and scoring 9, he has out performed every other 2B.

Worth discussion however is Daniel Murphy's errors; 8 in July and 13 of his 15 have occurred since 6/1, 2 days after Tejada was sent down.

More likely Wilmer Flores vs. no one.

Its Flores vs Murphy next year. For V-Spin to become part of the conversation he has to do a lot more than put up big numbers in Vegas. We'll have to see a marked improvement in his work ethic and commitment. Otherwise those are just empty numbers.

Murphy really has to be traded. He has value, but he's not the long term solution at 2B for the Mets. Therefore, I don't see them wanting to pay a bench player (which he will be next year) $4-$5MM.

Murphy could work in a platoon role, but I'm not a believer of Flores at 2B.

IMO, they could save money by platooning JV1 and EYJ at 2B.

Valdespin doesn't have a long term spot on this team. If he grows up and leanrs plate discipline he can be a good utility OF/2B, pinch hitter, and pinch runner, but he is not gonna be a starter for us, especially now with our depth at 2B (Murph, Flores, EYJr)

If Lagares can keep hitting now that Collins seems to be giving him a shot to be an every day player, then he'll be our CF of the future, and Im damn fine with that. That glove in CF to go with his speed and gap power is going to be an integral part of our team moving forward

Murphy was playing like an All Star offensively and defensively. In spite of that they moved him to first base so they could give Valdespin a try out as everyday 2nd baseman. That coincided with the start of Murphy's struggles offensively and defensively.

The Mets sent all kinds of wrong messages to Murphy by doing that. His reward for all the hard work he put in and success? Giving Valdespin an unearned chance to take his job.

I'm getting tired of the little crowd of Murphy bashers who never seem to learn much. Murphy is a proven .300 type hitter with decent power for 2nd. He'll slug .420-.450 any given year. When not being moved from position to position his fielding settles in wherever he plays.

The Mets flat out suck at almost every position other than second and third. Six weeks of overperformance from a few guys and some begin believing the mirage that a guy like Murphy is expendable on this team. If the Mets do move him, unless the haul is very big everyone will soon realize it's a mistake.
