    St.Louis Cardinals (62-37) @ Atlanta Braves (57-45) 7/26-7/28

    @

    St. Louis Cardinals@ Atlanta Braves

    Friday, 7/26 7:30 PM

    Adam Wainwright, RHP (13-5, 2.44 ERA)vsMike Minor, LHP (9-5, 2.98 ERA)

Wainwright continues to be the definition of ace, giving the Cardinals a strong chance to win each time out. He leads the league in innings pitched and wins, and he has finished at least eight innings in eight of his starts.

Since enduring four consecutive shaky starts, Minor has turned things around, allowing two earned runs or fewer in each of his past three outings. He has compiled a 2.66 ERA in his past 35 starts.

    Saturday, 7/27 3:05 PM

    Joe Kelly, RHP (1-3, 3.88 ERA)vs Julio Teheran, RHP (7-5, 3.25 ERA)

Kelly is 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in three spot starts this season. The right-hander hasn't pitched since July 12, his last start, when he allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks in a 3-2 win over the Cubs.

Teheran was masterful in the six innings he completed against the Mets on Monday. As he displayed good life with his fastball and slider, he showed that he benefited from the All-Star break.

    Sunday, 7/28 8:05 PM

    Shelby Miller, RHP (10-6, 2.77 ERA)vs Kris Medlen, RHP (6-10, 3.78 ERA)

Pitching on 12 days of rest, Miller held the Phillies scoreless for six innings, scattering three hits, in his last start. He walked one batter while striking out six. This will be the rookie Miller's first career start versus Atlanta.

Medlen's inability to consistently command his fastball has haunted him this season. Since beginning June with a pair of scoreless outings, he has posted a 5.53 ERA in the seven starts that have followed.

Here we go, the class of the NL. The top and most elite team in the NL..and maybe even the league actually.

They are the polar opposites of what we are. They THRIVE with RISP, they HAVE shut-down starting pitching and pen, they HAVE guys who produce to their talents. The only thing they do poorly is their team defense (ranked 23rd with a -25 DRS). They are good to excellent with everything else including coaching

There was one other statement series against a big time juggernaut that we've had this season...and it was against the Tigers.....where we promptly got embarrassed in every game.

I'm excited to see how we match up..but also fear that we'll get, even more, exposed and get embarrassed.

Won't be able to watch the first two...should be interesting. It is a statement series.

Just don't get swept. I think that's the only realistic hope for this series.

    I agree with you guys.
Just glad it isn't a four game set.
Sounds awful though. If we don't have any confidence in our team....

and we're hurt. a series loss means less than nothing if our depleted club goes head-to-head against their best.

The Braves have their best chance in game 2 and have almost no chance in game 3 (Medlen finally came back to Earth and is a 4 starter at best against the best rookie pitcher in baseball). Cards have the edge in game 1, too, but the Braves have a slim chance.

We beat Wainwright and the Cards, but we couldn't beat Carlos Torres and the Mets. #baseball
Great win guys, we have to secure the series tomorrow. We gain a game over the Fillies and half a game over the Nats after they split the DH.

Waffle House in Turner was probably better than at a normal Waffle House. Awesome move, can't wait to go back. Tomorrow will be awesome, back to back sellouts, baby!

Need a strong outing from young Julio. We always win the first game then suck the next two. Gotta show we are the big boys too.
