So Anna, what do you think about the notion that Russell Wilson is better than Andrew Luck?

    5 Camp battles to watch:

Phil Wilson has a good preview of what to watch for.. his 5 position battles are:

RB: Bradshaw vs Ballard and Carter vs Brown - Pretty simple. Bradshaw and Ballard will compete for carries assuming it's not going to be a 50/50 timeshare. And Brown/Carter's training camps may decide who gets cut.

#2 WR: T.Y. Hilton vs DHB - Both will see the field in 3 WR sets, but Colts will run a lot of 2 WR/2 TE sets so who will see the field in those situations?

RG: Hugh Thornton vs Mike McGlynn - Colts OLine coach is familiar with Thornton, but Grigson did bring in McGlynn and may give him every opportunity to grab a starting spot.

NT: Chapman vs McKinney - Wilson saying Colts may not keep 3 NT's and since Aubrayo Franklin is pretty much guaranteed to make the team one sport may come down to Chapman vs McKinney.

MLB: Conner vs Angerer vs Sheppard - Freeman is already entrenched as one of the starters, but who starts beside him?

There's the link if you want to read his write up for each position. It's obviously more thorough than what I wrote, so give it a look.

    No Bradshaw/Boyett to start camp:

The Indianapolis Colts will be without running back Ahmad Bradshaw and safety John Boyett for the start of training camp.

Bradshaw, a free-agent acquisition in June, has been placed on the physically unable to perform list while he continues to recover from January surgery on his right foot. Boyett, a sixth-round draft pick, was placed on the non-football injury list as he continues his rehabilitation from surgery on both of his knees while he was a senior at Oregon.

Both players count against the Colts’ 90-player training camp roster and can be activated whenever they gain medical clearance. Boyett’s placement on the NFI list is due to his medical situation occurring before he joined the team.

The Colts report to Anderson University Saturday for the start of camp.

Bradshaw offered an up-beat tweet shortly after the Colts announced the roster moves.

“For all y’all believers, just know tht I will b ready to rock. Come regular season. So, thank u, and keep believing. God-bless!’’ he wrote.

The team signed Bradshaw to a one-year contract that could be worth as much as $2 million, expecting him to upgrade its running game. He had his right foot in a protective boot as he watched the mandatory minicamp in June and coach Chuck Pagano made it clear the team would err on the side of caution as Bradshaw recovered from the foot surgery.

Bradshaw rushed for 4,232 yards and 32 touchdowns the past six seasons with the New York Giants. He rushed for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Until Bradshaw is allowed to practice, the Colts will rely on Vick Ballard, who led the team in rushing as a rookie in 2012 with 814 yards, 2009 first-round pick Donald Brown and Delone Carter.

Boyett was held out of all of the team’s offseason work as he recovered from surgery to repair tears to both patellar tendons.

Jeremy Maclin and Dennis Pitta both suffered serious injuries and are out for the year. I'm scared that Landry is going to destroy one of our WRs.

Pep was asked what he wanted to see from Andrew Luck this training camp, he said he wants Andrew to use the check-down more when a play breaks down. He doesn't want Andrew to run and take big hits but instead improve on his progressions. Hamilton also said for Andrew to improve on footwork.

    Bradshaw news:

I asked #Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw how long he'd be sitting out practices. "About two weeks."

Chappell with a day 1 recap:

ANDERSON — Observations from Sunday at training camp:

On target: OK, camp is a somewhat controlled environment from an offense vs. defense standpoint, but QB Andrew Luck enjoyed a solid first day nonetheless. In 7-on-7 and “team” drills, he completed 22-of-34 passes with one interception and touchdown passes to TE Coby Fleener and WR T.Y. Hilton. The TD to Fleener was sweet — down the right seam and slightly behind Fleener to keep the pass away from a converging DB.

O-line: As expected the starting unit consisted of LT Anthony Castonzo, LG Donald Thomas, C Samson Satele, RG Mike McGlynn and RT Gosder Cherilus. Rookie Hugh Thornton, who worked in the offseason as McGlynn’s backup, watched practice with his right foot in a protective boot.

McNary update: GM Ryan Grigson anticipates LB Josh McNary joining camp Tuesday. McNary, signed as a free agent in April, is a lieutenant in the Army. Details are being finalized for his discharge.

“We’ve got to get all that squared away,” Grigson said. “With the military, each case is a little bit different so we have to make sure we’re in tune with the league and our government and military.”

Not happy: Grigson chimed in on offseason distractions provided by WR LaVon Brazill, TE Weslye Saunders and S Joe Lefeged. Brazill was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy and Saunders eight games for violating the performance-enhancing drugs policy; Saunders was waived last week. Lefeged is facing gun-related charges.

“Disappointment, pure disappointment,” Grigson said. “We expect more out of our players.”

One for the ‘D:’ CB Cassius Vaughn provided a defensive highlight in “team” drills. Coverage took him to the right sideline where he intercepted by Matt Hasselbeck pass. Vaughn picked up a convoy of blockers and took it to the end zone.

Indianapolis Colts OG Hugh Thornton (ankle) will miss some time with an ankle injury.

I think everyone is rooting for him after hearing his story and he may end up a starter somewhere along the line by the end of the year. Hope he gets back on the field quickly.

If he's healthy, then yes. He's gone 7-8 months without any football so giving him a few touches in preseason wouldn't be unwise.
