Question Will Brandon Myers have a better year at TE than Bennett had last year?

And by "better" I mean both statistically and intangibles (like blocking).

    Bennett in 2012 with us:
    55 Receptions (on 90 targets...eww), 626 Yards, 5 TDs

Myers in 2012 with the Raiders:
    79 receptions (105 targets), 806 Yards, 4 TDs

Keep in mind, as good as Myers is, he was the prime target in OAK. Here, Nicks, Cruz and Randle will all get more looks.

We're going to miss the black unicorns blocking, especially if Hynoski misses a beat

The great thing about the tight end position on this team is that statistics really don't matter for it. We just need a guy who will be able to block properly and provide a solid presence in the middle of the field to at least make opposing defenses think about covering him.

Last year, Bennett had 185 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first 3 games. In the next 13 games, he had 441 yards and 2 touchdowns. That's an average of 34 yards per game. So he clearly started the season very well and slowly faded in terms of catching passes. Also, I watched every Giants game last year, and he seemed to drop plenty of passes and run bad routes.

That's not much for Myers to live up to. I don't think it is unrealistic for this guy to catch 4-5 passes a game for 50 yards per game. That would be 64-80 catches for 800 yards and 4 or 5 touchdowns as the third or fourth option. In reality, that's all we need. He seems to run good routes and has good hands. He might be the most established down-field threat at tight end we have had since Jeremy Shockey. As I said, we don't need a superstar. Just a presence. In terms of that, I think Myers will be fine. Numbers-wise, I think Myers numbers will be a little better than Bennett's.

Blocking- Myers had blocking issues in Oakland. But Pope is one of the best TE coaches in the league. So there is hope with the blocking.

Catching- Myers without question he has better hands and runs way better routes. But also if nicks is healthy, and Randle is what the coaches are saying he is in his second year, that will drop Myers thrown at attempts.

Unicorn was a lazy route runner who gave up on plays to easily it was very frustrating to watch. I'm not sad he is gone that's for sure. He also had blocking issues(Pope seemed to have fixed them when he got here)

Yup. This is often overlooked with him. He finally broke out and had good playing time, but suffered from the same faults that he did in Dallas; not having his head in the game at all times. Focus is big in the pass game and he didn't have it.

He was a blocking beast though and I worry we'll lose that strength with Myers.

The title should read ....will Myers have a better year than Jake Ballard did in our SB run?.

Good that you made this thread because I was unaware of this move...TEs have always been a big part of our offense so I hope can make an impact.

I'm beginning to think you took a year off of watching the Giants last season.

He'll definitely drop less passes than Bennett, (in a Daniel Tosh voice) and for that I thank him (in advance).

Jake Ballard may actually see some playing time this year in New England. With Hernandez in prison and Gronk still hurting, Ballard may be needed to produce big time. But from what I've seen he may be on PUP to start the season. Hard to think that it's been over a year and a half since he tore that ACL in the SB and he still isn't recovered. It sucks that he had to get hurt because he was solid as hell.

You can keep saying they beat the Packers on the road and all that, but they are not playing the Packers this Sunday. The Niners will win by 10 plus points..... Numbers don't lie only you and some giants fan do to make yourself feel better about the loss your team has coming up.

I agree 100% with this post.

Like many people out there, I didn't even know that the Raiders were still playing in the NFL. That means I didn't see Brandon Myers play a single down. For anyone who have seen him play, is the blocking issue due to strength, technique or both?

As far as catching, the BU gave up on so many plays last year. And he did drop some big passes as well. The guy was very frustrating to watch, as he is a total athletic freak. By all indiciations the guy should be dominating the league. But he isn't.

Unless things change, it's receivers offense. If the TE is putting up great numbers it might mean Nicks and company are injured. Watch what you wish for.

As far as last season, the black unicorn was running down the middle of the field often uncovered. Eli never delivered the ball and didn't appear to be looking for him. Safe to say, few had good years in 2012 including the QB.

reason for that: 90 targets, 55 receptions. what happened to the other 35 passes?

I remember quite a few times where he just stopped on his route as the ball sailed over his head. Or just flat out running the wrong route. He's got awesome ability, but the mental side just isn't there. I think he'll fit that CHI offense well though.

My buddy is a Raiders fan so I watched a few games last year, it wasn't obvious that he was bad at blocking.. I asked my buddy about it when we signed him and he just felt he was a very good pass catching TE and was pissed they lost him..

So is it possible we're making too much out of it?? I do know this he had better offers but Boss told him if you have a chance to play here don't pass up on it..

I looked passed that **** with Bennet because he was such a good blocker.. He stood up Ware in a 1 on 1.. How many TE's can do that lol

I think learning under Pope was big for Boss to make that claim.

True. He had a lot of practice against Ware in Dallas.
