Marquis has issued 65 walks this season, which leads the Majors. However, the Padres don't plan on telling him to tone the walks down. He'd rather walk a batter and get the next guy out rather than throw a 2-0 pitch down the middle.

Lynn lasted only 4 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Cubs in his last start, allowing six runs (all earned) on 10 hits, including homers by Alfonso Soriano and Luis Valbuena. It was his shortest outing since his first start of the season.

While the Padres' offense was getting no-hit, Volquez labored through his last start against the Giants. He left too many pitches up in the zone with two strikes and was charged with eight runs on nine hits in five innings.

Wainwright has great numbers at Busch Stadium in every category but wins this year. He's 4-4 in eight starts there, despite a 1.78 ERA and a sterling .808 WHIP. Wainwright is striking out about two more hitters per game in his home starts.

During the Padres' turbulent first half, Stults proved to durable and dependable. He allowed one run over six innings against the Giants his last time out, and it's hard to quibble with a 3.40 ERA in 20 starts.

Gave up 6 runs in the last 3 innings but still won 9-6 today, which is nice. Reds beat the Pirates so we are up 2 on the Pirates and stay 5 games ahead of the Reds.

Westbrook went 3-3 today, which gives him a .217 batting average.. better than Dunn's.. find that kinda funny. Also, Kozma is 5-10 in his last 2 games (not really saying much, but still).

    .300 AVG, 1 HR, 6 RBI, .431 OBP, .375 SLG, .806 OPS, .371 wOBA, 136 wRC+, .4 fWAR, 126 OPS+

    Found this online.

The 28-Year-Old Professional Athlete Who Simply Can’t Score

Cardinals outfielder Allen Craig is enjoying by far the best season of his MLB career. Craig already has 62 RBIs, and the Cardinals still have 15 games left before the All-Star break. (Non-baseball fans: having 100 RBIs in a year is a notable achievement, and the All-Star break comes halfway through the season.) But despite his gaudy offensive numbers, Craig has one major flaw in his game: the dude just can’t seem to cross home plate.

Adam Wainwright is good at throwing the baseball, but he can not get the lead off batter, I swear.

So did we get lucky on the ground-rule double? Or would he have not scored anyways? Got the series win!

He was def going to score. Craig would have had to have made an incredible throw and I don't think there was much of a chance he would get him at all.

    Very lucky.
