Chris Carpenter Completes First Rehab Assignment In Springfield

It's a point that not a lot of people, including St. Louis Cardinals front office staff, believed pitcher Chris Carpenter would reach in 2013: facing live hitters in a professional baseball game.

It happened Monday night at Hammons Field before a large crowd of 9,709 that reached near sellout status as folks jammed into the ball park downtown to see the former Cy Young award winner throw.

Carpenter threw 54 pitches in 2 2/3 innings in a game won by the Arkansas Travelers 5-3.

Just trying to get himself ready, so I'm not worried about stats though hitting 94 on a fastball is great

I'm actually extremely interested in how he feels in 2 days or so
