    Slimmer Boozer

By K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune reporter
    10:09 p.m. CDT, July 13, 2013

LAS VEGAS A noticeably slimmed down and fit Carlos Boozer attended with 12 members of his extended family to cheer on younger brother Charles, who landed on the Bulls' summer-league team.

Boozer, who wouldn't reveal his weight, said he has been participating in "cross-fit training with a vengeance." Why?

"We got DRose back," Boozer said of Derrick Rose. "Our fast break is going to be a little faster. I want to be up the floor with him on the break and get back in defensive transition as well. And just get ready for a year that could be special for us."

Indeed, Boozer lauded management for at least for now keeping the core of himself, Rose, Luol Deng and Joakim Noah for another title shot.

"We believe in our group. We always have," Boozer said. "We've been hit by the injury bug heavily the last three years. If we have a season where we're healthy, we like our chances of winning."

The free-agent signing of Mike Dunleavy, who teamed with Boozer to help lead Duke to the 2001 NCAA title, could augment those chances.

"Great pickup for us," Boozer said. "Great player. Great basketball IQ. Great pick-and-roll player. Great shooter. Great playmaker. He's going to add a lot to our bench."

As for younger brother Charles, who didn't play in the summer opener, Boozer couldn't contain his pride as he sat next to their parents.

"He was working out and healthy so I called (management members) Randy Brown, Gar (Forman and John Paxson) and asked them to give him a tryout," Boozer said. "And he made the summer team. I'm excited for him. He got an NBA uniform on that says Chicago. I'm proud of him. He worked his butt off for this moment."

Game on: Draft picks Tony Snell and Erik Murphy made their Bulls' debuts in a 87-61 victory over the Grizzlies. Snell finished with seven points on 3 of 9 shooting. Murphy missed all six of his 3-point attempts and finished with six points, also going 3 of 9.

"They have a lot to learn and they have to put the work into it first, learning the pro game, preparing themselves for training camp," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "But they've both shown they're more than capable shooting the 3-pointer in college. It's a little longer in the NBA but they both have great touch and we think they're a good fit."

Former Lakers shooting guard Andrew Goudelock led the Bulls with 26 points. Marquis Teague added seven assists.

Could we expect a faster and better defender Boozer this season?

This is like the third year in a row there's been a "noticeably slimmed down" Boozer.

Your right Rosh... Every season he always slimmed down.
Though this summer he made it sound good with this Cross-fit training(IDK what this is).

CrossFit is a very intense workout thing. It is so intense that it will not only burn sugar and fat, but also your wallet. The one crossfit gym a block away from my house costs about $175/month after a $200 initial seminar ****. Yes, that is $175 monthly.

Yea, possibly being a FA after this season. Not ragging the dude for doing it, but that's probably the most likely reason.

Haha I was just thinking the same thing.

Good for him. I imagine he wants one more big contract before retiring so he's trying to prove himself this year, especially since he's a good candidate to be amnestied. Either way, it's nice to hear but I hope slimming down won't affect his physicality offensively in the low post or rebounding.

I'm honestly expecting Serge Ibaka esque play from Boozer this season. The weight loss will obviously elevate his vertical a good 7-14" making him arguably the greatest shotblocker of all time.

What? I just took a monster dump and improved my vertical by at least 8 inches.

That was pretty clearly a joke.

    And a funny one.

And then. He made them pancakes.

Eh, I applaud Boozer for it, whatever his intentions are. He WAS noticeably slimmer last season, and for all the jabs at him not being durable, I think he's missed something like 3 games in the past 2 seasons. If he indeed is getting himself in better shape, kudos.

Now, will that improve his defense? No, I'm not delusional.

He slimmed down last year and it showed in his play. Hopefully he will be more athletic this year due to this training.
