I'm so pumped. Such an awesome signing. Guy really loves this city and this team. Not too often you see a guy start his career with Boston and end it with Boston. Wonder who the last guy for the B's to do that?

Kicks in next season at 6.5 mil per at which point we're at a lil over 56 mil total with several guys coming up for FA (Iggy, Thornton, Krug, Seids)

Only players to play for 10+ years with only the bruins are O'reilly and Axlelsson

    Kirk Luedeke ‏@kluedeke29 3m
Tweeted this before, but worth a reprise: Scott Bradley went to Bathurst to see Bruno Gervais in 2002...came away smitten with #37- Bergeron

As Boston's chief amateur scout at the time, Bradley pushed hard for Bergeron and breathed a sigh of relief when he was there at 45th o'all
Just some interesting stuff...Thank god Bradley pushed hard for Bergeron

such a great signing guy could have commanded 8 mil yr easily on the open market. hope to see this guy with the C on his jersey soon.

I'm glad he's locked up for 8 years with a pretty reasonable contract. The guy is a consummate professional and a perfect Bruins player.

However, am I the only one that's nervous about his health? He's had a number of concussions over the past few years; I just hope he doesn't get a hit that makes it a serious problem.

Seriously, do not take this as a bait.

I'm a little shocked that he's making this much. My math is a little off, but 6.5M per, correct? The cap has to be going back up. Patrice Bergeron is a great player, but due to his style, and history, I feel like a 30+ year old Bergeron for multiple seasons is very scary. He's a very smart player, but his style is almost reckless. He's not scared to get into situations, but his body takes a lot of beatings.

He's going to be what, 29 years old entering this deal? He's not an RFA, is he? Doesn't he have a year left? He's a 60 point player, give or take. He's going to be ending this deal around 37 years old. His game is gritty, he's taken a lot of damage, and for those reasons, it's going to be scary around the end. Then again, most signings now a days, and over the past two years or so have been stupid. This is the new way, instead of ridiculous deals around 15 years. Cool fact. Bergeron is younger than Parise, is making the same cap hit I believe, for 7 less years.

Oh and for the record, I did not like the Zetterberg and Franzen signings, so I'm not some homer here trying to talk about other players' contracts. I ripped on the Ryan Suter and Zach Parise deals, and have discussed the Wings' deals. Patrice Bergeron is a great player. Probably a third tier player-ish, up front.
