Why arent the spurs going after Al Jefferson?

Why give Splitter a 9mil per year contract, when I'm sure they could get Al jefferson for 10mil a year..

Splitter is a better defender and cheaper.

Splitter plays the pick and roll on both ends great. Al Jefferson does not. At all. Too slow to play alongside Duncan at this point.

Very good question OP!. Splitter was an offensive liability in the finals. Jefferson could probably spare Timmy a couple more years.

Lol if you think Jefferson will get only $10 mil.

Don't think the Spurs are under the cap to sign him anyways.

Jefferson would have gotten exposed just as bad trying to defend Miami's small ball and score against their pressure trap defense.
The value of elite scoring ability, by Phil Jackson:

"This is a guy, we recognize his talent, and his skill is the kind of skill and talent that gets you through playoff games where things get sticky, grind-out, and basketball becomes a force game and suddenly you need to have a player who has the capabilities of scoring with someone hanging on them in a situation thatís critical. Heís one of those players, one of the few players who can do that.Ē

yeah but al jefferson would be playing for a championship. you'd be surprised, didnt james wade and bosh take a paycut to play for championships? and look how that's working out for them so you'd be surprised, so dont assume 10mil a year isnt a decent pay for jefferson. He made 14mil a year, and he's aging, it isnt that bad. David west got something similar.

not every player can make up"the lost salary" by endorsements and getting paid the rest under the table like lebron/wade/bosh do.al jefferson just makes what his salary is.10 is decent ,but below market value.and being aging is why he wouldntt take a pay cut to go to a contender, this is his last chance at a big payday.he can always ring chase for vet min on his next contract

Because Pop wants good unselfish players who work hard. Al is none of those things. He puffs up his own numbers at the expense of the team and W's. He is on a list of "not gonna touch um" by every coach and GM who is actively trying to win a ring.

    Splitter is better than Al.

Ask the Spurs. They will agree with me.

He didn't play much in the finals because of matchup. The Heat went small so Pop did. The reason they are not going after Big Al is because he is terribly slow and would give up just as much as he would give. Imagine TD & AL trying to defend the PnR. Teams would literally PnR them to death. He is a bad defender & a terrible fit. If TD retired? Sure.
