Canucks trade Schneider - Luongo is their man...again

Wow no one saw that coming.. All word was that Luongo was out the door.

Devils get Cory Schneider for pick

NEWARK, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils made a splash in the opening hour of the 2013 NHL draft, dealing their ninth overall pick to the Vancouver Canucks to acquire goaltender Cory Schneider.

Schneider will likely serve as the heir apparent to 41-year-old Martin Brodeur, who has one year remaining on a two-year deal.

The Canucks selected center Bo Horvat with the acquired pick.

The move ends months of speculation out of Vancouver around the team's goaltending situation. Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo has previously made clear his desire to be traded, though general manager Mike Gillis began shopping Schneider instead in the days leading up to the draft.

The 27-year-old Schneider was 17-9-4 in 30 games for the Canucks this season.

Cory Schneider for Bo Horvat? Didnt the Kings get a better haul for their backup goalie? You would think a starting goalie would fetch an immediate top 6 forward and more, not just one prosepct with no impact for '13-'14

Mike Gillis ruined the Canucks. He's awful. Dreadful.

Burke didn't help with the acquiring of both Sedin twins on draft day.

I'm amused by Vancouver struggling to replace Hodgson after they got robbed in that trade. Now they've thrown away their best goalie in addition to their best (long term) center.

Vancouver continues to provide comedy for me as a hockey fan. They hired Tortrella in a sideways move for coaching. Now, this. Will this GM survive? He makes Burke look like a good GM.

Awful for Vancouver. I'm happy for Cory though.

How will they divide the time between Brodeur and Schneider? Will it be a timeshare? I dont think NewJersey will make Brodeur a backup after all he has done there.
I heard on the draft telecast that Vancouver was offered a better deal but turned it down as they didn't want Schneider in their division. Has anyone heard confirmation that Edmonton made a stronger pitch?
