Elgin Baylor scored 61 points in the NBA Finals (and had 17 rebounds that game)
He averaged 40.6 points during that NBA Finals - That makes Elgin one of the greatest NBA Finals performers of all time.
There is not much footage of his career, but here is a collection of what few clips exist with some equally rare game sounds and testimonial. Most of the footage is post-injury, when Elgin was over the hill in his 30's. But some of those clips are pre-injury and you can see in a few clips, the rarified hang-time and body control that he once boasted. His drives and passing ability look nothing short of spectacular.
I have had the pleasure of seeing some footage as well as a couple of games on Vintage NBA on NBA tv. Elgin was no joke, He was the original skywalker before Dr.J and the Hawk (Connie Hawkins) there was Elgin. He along with The Logo made the one of the greatest scoring tandems in history. He could do any and everything he wanted to do with the ball. Quite frankly he too deserves a statue in fron of Staples. He was every bit as important to the success of the Lakers from the time they moved to L.A. as West was.
Imagine if they could have gotten Wilt when Baylor was still playing in his prime. I believe at least 3 of those ring Boston had would have been ours.....If only, Huh!
