Lyons struggled in his last start vs. the Marlins, allowing six runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings. He found himself in a pair of two-out jams that he was unable to get out of, surrendering two runs in each of those innings.

Holland has allowed eight or more hits in seven of his last eight starts, losing his last two. He last allowed four runs on 10 hits in six frames Sunday vs. the Blue Jays. He has allowed just one home run against his last 163 lefties.

Miller pitched five scoreless innings en route to his eighth win Saturday but was removed from the game with a right calf cramp. Miller said the cramping was due to dehydration, and he insisted he would be fine for his next start.

Perez made his first start during the Rangers' doubleheader vs. the D-backs. He allowed three earned runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings and was sent to Triple-A Round Rock afterward. Perez is 5-1 with a 1.75 ERA in six starts at Round Rock.

    Injuries

    Day-to-day

    15-day DL

    Fernando Salas
June 20 - Salas (shoulder) pitched a scoreless sixth inning in his rehab start at Triple-A Memphis Wednesday.
    ESPN

    John Gast
June 18 - Gast (back) has yet to throw and will likely be sidelined for another four weeks, with it taking as long as six weeks before he attempts to throw, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
    ESPN

    60-day DL

    Chris Carpenter
June 20 - Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter suffered a lower back injury during a recent bullpen session, and this setback has caused his rehab regimen to be put on hold.
This apparently happened a few days ago, but Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak didn't reveal it until Thursday, at which point he said Carpenter's status has improved.
"We don't think it's as serious as we first thought," Mozeliak said, via the Associated Press. "It's slowing things down. Hopefully we can continue to work at it. As you can tell, we've got to be patient here."
As Mozeliak has stressed ever since word got out that Carpenter had a shot to return to the team this season, any contribution that he can provide would amount to gravy. The team entered the season expecting to be without Carpenter, and thus far they have the best record in the majors.
    CBS Sports

    Jaime Garcia
May 30 - Cardinals moved Jaime Garcia to the 60-day DL

    Jason Motte
May 7 - CHICAGO -- St. Louis Cardinals closer Jason Motte had season-ending Tommy John surgery on Tuesday.
Motte tweeted the ligament-replacement surgery on his right elbow "went well."
    ESPN

    Rafael Furcal
Mar 7 - JUPITER, Fla. -- St. Louis shortstop Rafael Furcal will undergo ligament replacement surgery in his right elbow and expects to miss the 2013 season.
Furcal made the decision after visiting Dr. James Andrew's clinic in Pensacola, Fla., on Wednesday.

i think this is a case of the gods of fairness making up for what happened in 2011, specifically game 6. some karma had to go around the other way.
