    Avila vs Pena

I can't agree more. Avila is what this team needs behind the dish.

I'm glad Avila is getting time off (unfortunately for injury). I'm also glad Pena is a quality backup that should be able to fill in well in Avila's absence, but I don't want him long term. Although, if Avila comes back and STILL struggles mightily, I might change my tune. Not that Pena is the answer, but we can't have an everyday guy hitting .171, and also below average (this season) in throwing runners out, which I understand is also on the pitchers. (note: Avila has thrown out 9 of 43 steal attempts (21%), and Pena has thrown out 8 of 23 attempts (35%), limited sample I know)

It's hard to believe this is the same guy that was 12th in MVP voting just 2 seasons ago

I hope Avila comes back strong...also he's a better defensive catcher than Pena.

Pena with consistent playing time will be exposed offensively I'm afraid. Which is why I agree with the idea that this time off for Avila will/hopefully get him back on track.

Who knows how things could turn out. Pena could start slumping, Holaday could be the one to use his call up to prove he has something the Tigers could really use, and Avila's time on the DL could be the time he really needs to be healthy and start hitting again.
