He is an average major league catcher. Better than some, but by no means is he a top 10 catcher

and the only reason he is considered an average catcher is because of his ability to throw out baserunners and his OBP. Other than that he has little to no power and he could block a lot better.

    Yup exactly...

I don't want to bash him but I think in 2014 Fed ex should be our starter..

LOL, AJ Ellis is without a doubt a top 10 catcher, maybe even top 5.

He had high on base and a good arm but what else does he do that warrants him to be a top 10 catcher or top 5. He has played 1 full season in his career. He was a backup and before that a career minor leaguer.

32 years old and only playing 1 full season as a starter. That's not even close to being top in the game

Yadier Molina is considered one of the best to ever play catcher solely because of his defense. It's not far fetched to consider AJ a top 5 catcher in the league. One of the strongest arms in the game, and his offense is above average.

1 dimensional catcher? Not all teams even steal. Hell we have puig for 12 games without 1 stolen base. Molina has both offense and defense catcher. Wow aj Ellis hits singles and gets walks, we need a catcher who is great at defense if that's all the offense will provide. So no aj is average catcher at best who will be fed ex backup soon who last year was probably his best and only season with any good numbers

You can't name me 5 catchers better than him last year.

Catchers are praised for their defense and game calling, something in which AJ Ellis excels at.

    Posey
    Molina
    Mauer
    Montero
    Weiters

Were all arguably better last year.
