ESPN's Matt Williamson: Buccaneers Earn "C" Grade This Off-season

    NFC South Blog:

Although the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a huge trade for cornerback Darrelle Revis and signed safety Dashon Goldson to a big free-agent contract, Williamson only gave the Bucs a C. His major concern is the pass rush. But the Bucs seem to be fairly convinced that defensive end Da’Quan Bowers is ready for a breakout season. Williamson was also critical of the Bucs for not doing more on the offensive side of the ball. I see his point. The Bucs have plenty of salary-cap room and they could have done more to surround quarterback Josh Freeman with talent.
How would you grade the Bucs off-season moves?

Are you concerned with the pass-rush? Should the Bucs have added more help on the offensive side of the ball?

A+ ...One of the most talented teams in the NFL...grabbing the #1 CB and a Top 5 Safety...as well as drafting the best CB in the draft Johnthan Banks.

Bowers getting the starting role is huge. he's set to explode. People say pass rush like we didn't spend our 2 4ths and 5th on DLine with 2 of those being ends. Id say Gholston and Means are too high upside pass rushers. That's not ignoring the problem that's trying to add depth and playmakers. Plus Bowers and a healthy. stronger, faster Clayborn. Can't forget about GMC and the fact that he makes the ends job easier by being such a force inside. This line with this sick LB core and crazy good secondary. It's a recipe for a Top 10 Offense(again), Top 10 defense and a playoff run.

You get 2 healthy pro bowl guard back and a 2nd full offseason with everyone in the same offense. You don't need to do much. Nicks is the best OG in the game, getting him and Joseph who hasn't played any real football with Martin or Jackson will be more than enough to help this offense get even better.

I went A+... Offseason was incredible! Dept the O is on track we added all we needed, and I have no concerns of the pass rush, hell I have extremely high expectations with bower and clay back in the fold with the additional of the monster spence! Is grade the draft differently then i have b4 up to this point, but the entire offseason is nothing short of an A+ maybe higher if u move the ceiling out the damn way!

I'll go A- it'll be a A+ if Tom Crabtree comes through and can at least get 35 catches i'll be happy.

I voted A- for the same reasons that Bwall and Capital T mentioned. The only reason I don't think they deserve an A+ is because I think they could have done a better job adding quality depth.

    Offensive tackle:

I feel great about Penn and Dotson on the outside, but I'm very concerned about the depth behind them. What happens if one of them go down?

Here are the other tackles on our roster right now:

    Jason Weaver
    Nick Speller
    Brice Schwab
    Mike Remmers
    Jamon Meredith
    Jace Daniels

Yikes! Meredith is easily the best of the bunch, and he struggled last year at guard. I really wished we could have signed a veteran tackle to a one year deal to provide depth.

    Defensive end:

There are so many question marks with this young group of ends. Will Bowers be effective as a starter? Will Adrian Clayborn bounce back? Like PFISH mentioned in the other thread today, he wasn't effective last year during the first few games. PFF shows that he five quarterback pressures in 123 passing plays. That's not what you want to see out of your first round pick.

Daniel Teo-Nesheim certainly doesn't make me feel better, either. Although he was solid against the run, he was not effective against the pass. He had just 18 pressures last year on 432 passing downs. Those numbers made him one of the least effective pass-rushers in the NFL.

I'm glad we were able to draft a pair of ends, but can we really count on them to be effective as rookies? I'm not so sure at this point. I would feel a lot more comfortable if we could add a third down pass-rush specialist like John Abraham to the mix.

I'd say a B, no threat to freeman was brought in as alleged to, no power back, no vet in the front 7 brought in.

The Bucs have plenty of salary-cap room
Is that actually true in a practical sense? I'm sure they're under the cap right now, but could they have spent that money without putting themselves in cap hell going forward?

I'll give us a B only because of the OT depth and TE. Otherwise we've had a good off season. I'm not buying in to MBS's take on the QB situation of not a threat to Free. He needs to be pushed and is take Glennon over any if the freeagent QB's out their

Disliked the draft but Revis + Goldson alone makes it a A+ for me

Hahaha, some dude on bleacher report wrote a win/loss prediction for every team. He predicted 5 wins for the Bucs. I have been laughing at this for about 45 min. now!
