Jared Hughes and Ryan Reid are scheduled to join the team today to give the bullpen some reinforcements. The corresponding moves haven't been announced but we will likely see two of the following: Zagurski DFA'd, Morris optioned to AAA, Gomez to the DL.

Pending on which two we see additional moves could be made. If Zagurski isn't DFA'd John McDonald could be or Gomez could be placed on the 60 day DL. If Zagurski is DFA'd that should be all the moves we see for now. Although if Gomez is DL'd a move for a starter (Morton, Oliver, etc) will have to be in the forthcoming.

Due to an off day on each side of the Cubs series the Pirates can actually avoid using a 5th starter until June 15th. So I'm expecting Gomez to go on the 15 day DL.

Yep Gomez to the 15 day DL and Presley optioned to AAA clears two spots for Reid and Hughes. To clear s pot for Reid on the 40 man roster Phillip Irwin was placed on the 60 day DL. Kind of surprised we are playing a position player short tonight. I expected Morris to be sent down for 10 days since he probably won't be available for 2-3 anyway. So 9 relievers tonight although Mazzaro and Morris are likely unavailable.

Off day for Cutch today. Interesting timing seeing as he just had an off day not so long ago but whatever. With Presley gone the Pirates are doing probably what is there only other choice and moving Jones to RF and starting Sanchez at 1B. Hopefully they can score some runs for AJ.

    1. Starling Marte (R) CF
    2. Neil Walker (S) 2B
    3. Garrett Jones (L) RF
    4. Gaby Sanchez (R) 1B
    5. Travis Snider (L) LF
    6. Russell Martin (R) C
    7. Pedro Alvarez (L) 3B
    8. Clint Barmes (R) SS
    9. A.J. Burnett (R) P

    And of course ...

    The Bad Guys
    1. Andrelton Simmons (R) SS
    2. Jason Heyward (L) RF
    3. Justin Upton (R) LF
    4. Freddie Freeman (L) 1B
    5. Brian McCann (L) C
    6. Chris Johnson (R) 3B
    7. Dan Uggla (R) 2B
    8. B.J. Upton (R) CF
    9. Kris Medlen (S) P

The nice thing about Reid is that he has never been on a 40 man roster before. Which means that even though he is 28 he still has all 3 options remaining.

Options are a yearly thing meaning a player can only use one a year. This is Presley's last option year.

I have a feeling this is going to be a down month. It's a pretty brutal schedule. Hopefully we hold our own though.

I think we can end the Zagurski experiment. Do the Yankees still have interest in him?

Need a good bounce back performance from Locke tomorrow. June is going to be difficult but if the Pirates can just play around 500 ball things will still be looking good.

is it just me or have the nl hitters caught up with aj burnett since the all star game last year he has not been as dominant as before. i figured in this his contract year we would see more of what we saw last year in the first half while he has not been getting much run support. he has been an average pitcher
