Crosstown Classic Sox @ Cubs Part II l 5/29-5/30

Chicago Cubs VS Chicago White Sox

Game 1, Monday, May 27, 6:10 PM CDT

    VS

Name IP ERA K/9 BB/9 BABIP LOB% HR/FB FIP XFIP
    Samardzija 63.2 3.25 10.18 3.11 .277 71.7 11.5 3.16 3.09
    Quintana 51.2 3.48 6.79 2.61 .265 72.7 8.2 3.74 4.16
Samardzija notched another quality start in his last outing but once again went without a win. He held the Pirates to three hits in seven innings, striking out eight. He is 0-2 in four games (one start) against the White Sox.
After taking a no-hitter into the seventh against Boston, broken up by a David Ortiz one-out single, Quintana gets to face the Cubs for the first time in his career. Quintana has a 2-1 record with a 3.80 over four home starts.

Game 2, Tuesday, May 28, 7:10 PM CDT

    VS

Name IP ERA K/9 BB/9 BABIP LOB% HR/FB FIP XFIP
    Jackson 53.0 6.11 8.83 3.74 .341 56.4 11.1 3.68 3.67
    Sale 64.0 2.53 8.58 2.11 .235 80.2 10.2 3.22 3.31
Jackson gave up four runs on six hits and struck out six over three innings in his last start but his outing ended early because of rain. He's 1-4 vs. the White Sox, who he pitched for from 2010-11.
Sale is determined to take the mound against the Cubs, after having his last start skipped because of a bout of mild tendinitis in the back of his pitching shoulder. He has thrown 23 straight scoreless innings.

    More Stats

Who's hot: The White Sox have won eight of their last 11 against the Cubs. Alexei Ramirez has reached base safely in 13 of his last 14 games and is hitting .351 during that span. Alex Rios is hitting .318 in May and has a hit in 20 of his last 21 games. The Sox have won six of their last seven home games.
Who's not: Adam Dunn hit his 12th homer Saturday, but he is in a 1-for-19 slump. The Cubs have lost six of seven. Anthony Rizzo is 4-for-31, including an 0-for-23 skid. Alfonso Soriano is 6-for-35 (.171).

Worried about tonight's game but have a feeling that Gillaspie and Dunn will cause enough damage for us to snag a victory.

Basically the key with Samardzija is not chasing pitches. He will walk people. Quintana just needs to keep hitters in check and I think the Sox will be fine.

There is no reason we shouldn't take both.

Hats off to the "shark." He made our Sox look pitiful. Hopefully Sale returns the favor tonight.

I hope they don't get rained out. I hope Sale is 100% ready to go. I hope Sale throws a perfecto. Getting humiliated by the cubs only weakens my enthusiasm which is already clinging on by the fingernails this year. A decisive no-hitter or perfecto by Sale is just about what I need to see in order to restore some enthusiasm.

    Crosstown Classic Cubs @ Sox Part 1 l 5/27-5/28

The Sox did exactly what I didn't want them to do early in counts. They were chasing. If you chase against Shark, he will beat you down with that splitter.
