You've got to go back to 1993 and the days of Jeff Torberg to find a Mets team worse than this one. Doc, Sid, and HoJo were still around from the championship team. Our starting rotation also featured Brett Saberhagen, and Frank Tanana. Bobby Bonilla and Vince Coleman patrolled the outfield. Slugger-statue Eddie Murray played first while knocking in 100 runs and soon-to-be HOFer Jeff Kent played second although his 21 homers and .270 batting average weren't considered good enough for him to stay. And a roided up Todd Hundley was our catcher.
After 37 games, the Mets were 12-25 after their game on May 18th, two games worse than they are now.
Ironically, even though they won the next game, Jeff Torberg, FoC's choice for Worst Manager in Franchise History (WMFH), was replaced by Dallas Green, who probably did more to screw up the development of young players than any other MFH (Manager in Franchise History.)
But in all fairness to this group, that (expletive) team was a bunch of bloated, overpaid a-holes compared to the Dollar Store specials who are taking the field for us now.
So if I had to make a choice, I'd take this group every time.
But they still suck. 14-23 is pathetic.
