Is Carimi done as a Bear?

The talk that 2011 first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi is in danger of getting cut will only heat up after Carimi skipped the first day of Organized Team Activities on Monday.

Carimi was the only Bear who was eligible to participate who didnít show up, according to ESPNChicago.com. A few other Bears, most notably first-round draft pick Kyle Long, are not eligible to participate because of the NFL rule keeping players who are still in college from attending OTAs while their schools are still in session.

Thereís no word on why Carimi did not attend, but when youíre fighting for a roster spot, every day you miss is a day when you donít get a chance to prove yourself. And thatís particularly problematic on a team like the Bears, where the new coaching staff is taking its first look at the players.

Carimi did participate in the Bearsí voluntary three-day minicamp that ended on April 18, but he hasnít participated in any workouts since then.

I sad yes before the draft although I was thinking it wouldn't be until next year given the amount of dead money this year.

It's paid money regardless, they may simply feel that he can't even suit up for them. If that's the case they should cut him to open a roster spot for a guy they feel that they can use.

This isn't the best start but honestly I still have some hope held out for him. His got talent but he's going to have to have a big training camp to stay on the team. Which I think he will.

I hope he isn't if only because of his previous value, but Emery wasn't the one who picked him and he strikes me the type of guy who'll make the efficient decision regardless of sunk cost.

He is awful..hopefully he is done. He spends more time facing cutler (watching him get hit) than he does defensive linemen

@adamjahns: Can confirm that OL Gabe Carimi has informed that #Bears that he prefers to remain in Arizona to train. OTA's are voluntary.

I am weighing in with a firm "maybe" on this. Per the ESPN website article yesterday, Gabe's decision to stay in AZ was known to the Bears back in April. The conspicuous lack of comment could mean that they approve of what he is doing down there or they just don't give a ****. Basically, I am saying what I have said for months - if his knee is still a problem, he is probably gone. If it is 100% or close to it, Webb is gone.

Right now, it does not sound like it is anywhere near 100%
