There is No Power on This Team

They all seem to be a bunch of single hitters. Including Kemp who is getting good pitches to hit but all you see is that hump back single to left. When the season first started the thought of Ramirez, Gonzalez, Kemp, Ethier could possibly be 30/100 guys. Well that we see will never happen. But then you think that pitching wins games. Well it turns out that Kershaw (#1) and Ryu (#3) gives us our only real shot at winning a game. Bull pen is fair and the bench is weak. Sure injuries had a big part in sabotaging this season but every team has injuries. Bottom line this $230,000,000 team stinks !

I don't know if any of you saw that short segment video Kemp did with Pedro Gomez about giving basically his uniform to the sick kid in S.F., but he brought up a lil about the season and said "I'm not one to make excuses but I did just have shoulder surgery a couple months ago but I'm getting there" He would not elaborate and was quick to change the subject....He is not 100%

(I paraphrased that as best as I could, looking for link)

^^ if he is in the lineup everyday I am going to assume he is healthy, if he is really hurt he needs to go on the dl. Unlike pitching or 3rd base, we have plenty of depth for the outfield. We need kemp healthy

I don't think he is hurt at all, I just think its the coming back from it physically and mentally that's hurting him and the only way to get back to it, is to be in there every day hitting, it will come and the shame is, when he ends up with only 23 HR this year he will be looked at as declining already or whatever other stupid reason someone can come up with.

Who is going to lead the team other than mattingly? Who are they going to hire to replace him hillman? Any one else they bring in is still going to have to deal with the injuries, it is going to be the same thing and will disrupt the team chemistry the players respect donnie. we are still in the beginning of the season we will level out by the all star break and make a charge a bit healthier.
    Go dodgers!!!!
    LAKERS
    Go dolphins!!!!
    Go Flyers!!!!!

We have Wallach who was AAA manager of the year in his 1 year as Manager, He has 3 Sons who are all baseball players. He was also a great player in the Major Leagues. Wallach>Hillman>Mattingly.

The Yankees have dealt with injuries (Texeria,Grandson,Jeter,A-Rod etc.) just as much as we have look at their record 25-14 compared to our 16-22. Injuries is a terrible excuse and you guys know it.

there is never power on a dodgers team. plain and simple. We might have one guy break out like Beltre, kemp, or Green, but the Dodgers notoriously are known to lack power. Look at the 1988 World Series team. Absolutely no power.

totally different, you can over come hitting with good pitching and their staff has been healthy. While our rotation has lost

: bills, grinkie, caps, lily, fife, tolleson, elbert

once this team gets healthy and used to their roles, they will start to win.

Oh btw, baseball prospectus shows the Dodgers winning the division.

I always respect your posts, wish you posted more around here but got to disagree here.

Besides for Greinke none of those guys really matter. I guess possibly you could say Billingsley but we knew he was hurt last year and we did sign RYU in the offseason.

Thanks for the compliment, I'll try. I love baseball, been following it nearly every day of my life since 10 (31 now)

Bills seemed to have found himself last year, he was pitching like a #2
Lily is a good #3-#4 when he's on but he's not fully healthy. He gives you inning and can pitch a gem every now and then.

Cap is a good #4-#5, like Lily, but not gem worthy but he can give you innings and you always expect him to give up at least 1-2 runs when he pitches.

I added Fife, Tolleson and Elbert to show that we have little wiggle room, even after out #2, and #3 pitchers got hurt, we lost our #4 and #5, and the guy we called up to replace him.

Then in our bullpen, we lost our lefty specialist and a young fire baller in the pen, so you can't give Paco Rodriguez and the other relievers in the bullpen as much rest as you could if they were healthy.

as our guys get more and more healthy, and into defined roles, and get used to the pitches they see when hitting around certain players, they will play better and more consistently.

I think this team as constituted is worth series worthy, even without bills

Kersh, Grienke and Ryu can anchor our rotation in the playoffs

and as the summer heats up, Kemp gets better he WILL hit, Adrian is hitting well, even if not with much power (can u believe he and Loney are a PUSH right now, WTF!)

Ethier is streaky, we all knwo this, he will get 10 straight hits, then go on a 0-15 streak, thats how he is. Mark Ellis not being here hurts more than it seems, hes smart, good range and close at 2B, so that keeps certain balls from getting through and if we keep Dee at SS, it'll be hard for balls to go thru the middle.

Thats part of what I mean, we have good fielders, good hitters AND we are leading the league in On-Base percentage, eventually those batters that are getting on base, will start to get hit in.

Oh and as to the power drought, uh, the Giants who won 2 of the last 3 world series have no power, but they hit well and hit well situationally, have strong pitching and a strong bullpen and i think we're better hitting wise, as good in the rotation and maybe not as good in the bullpen but they are streaky and can put together great runs when hot.

This is how we do it! I still believe

Lack of power isn't our problem ,its the lack of hits w/ risp that is the single biggest problem this team has IMO

    Indeed, this is very true

We never should be expecting much power

^^^this, but with Hanley, A-gon, Kemp, & Ethier, You wouldn't expect Crawford to lead our team in homers
