2014 Free Agent List: Start Shopping Early

While we are arguing over whether or not the Wilpons should be investing some of the savings from the divestiture of Reyes, FRod, Beltran, etc. and the upcoming expirations of Santana's and Bay's contracts here are the guys who will be on the market in November, according to MLBTradeRumors.com. My targets in bold. Unless we are going to try to sign Lincecum or Shields to be our new veteran ace or upgrading second [Cano] our focus will be on mostly the outfield: Ellsbury, Pence, NCruz, Granderson, Young---I'll take two, thank you---but we still need a true leadoff hitter and that looks like a trade or two is needed.

Josh Johnson and Lincecum to me would be ridiculous if those guys can bounce back. I would really think one of them could anchor or rotation while Harvey, Niese and Wheeler develop. Taking alot of pressure of those guys.

I am almost certain Zobrist's option will be picked up.

Pence, Ellsbury, Morse, Murphy, Choo should all be options.

Even Cruz depending on the years.

They are going need help in one if not both corner spots at the very least.

Everyone is signing extensions these days anyway, FA is dying. We need to make some trades unfortunately.

Agreed and I'd throw Corey Hart onto that list too. Looks like depth at middle infield too if Tejada or Murphy don't show up this season.

I think we have to trade to get what we want. Take on salary $$$ in the deal to give up less prospects.

    Do both..

Using some of the minor league SP depth they have to find one corner OF and then sign another one next offseason.

Unless Duda can hit 25+ home runs this year, his defense limits him from being a long term option. Byrd is not a long term option either..

Ellsbury won't be an option, if he has a good year, Boston will resign him, they have pots of money and are actually willing to spend it. They don't keep claiming they it, and then make excuses for not spending it.

David Murphy? I wouldn't bother. What difference is he going to make?

I think Morse will be 32.

Next years options are no more enticing than Bourn was.

If people are thinking Heyward and Stanton will hit FA and the Mets will sign one of them they are dreaming, Heyward will be resigned by ATL, Stanton will never hit FA, he will be traded to a team willing to give up the farm and 8-10 years and $160-200M+. Just as Miggy was dealt and locked up, or Fielder, now I know Miggy is a FA soon, but Detroit's owner will pay him, he's 100% committed to winning.

In either scenario Stanton will not be a Met. If he hits FA, does anyone for a second believe the Mets are gonna outbid the Yankees for him? he's just about the best young star in the game...

Ruth and DiMaggio to sure up the outfield.

Because as long as we're fantasizing, we might as well go all out.
"Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."

I honestly don't care how old Morse is. He's a legit power bat that already has 4 homers in 5 games.

The Mets could desperately use a power bat from the right side to compliment Ike.

I don't know if Ellsbury is going to repeat his power performance from 2 years ago which could drive down his price tremendously. They'll have to see what Boston does and what the market is like. If Ellsbury doesn't hit for 20+ homers, he just becomes an older and more injured version of Bourn.

David Murphy was a 3.5 rWAR player in 2012, if he repeats that performance he could be worth bringing in.

The Mets need OF help where they can find it and given the limited options in FA the next 2 years, they are either going to have trade for OF help or at the very least sign one of these free agent options.

Don't count on Ellsbury being a Met. If he's not worth it to Boston, why would he be worth it to the Mets? If he is worth keeping he'll stay where he is.

    I can live with Morse.

There's no way this team can do nothing again, if we do then that proves the rebuild is nothing but a myth.

Alderson's grace period is totally over, we could be improving now, Harang is out there.
