Mets projected to go 82-80 5.0 gb

I do not have a link, it is on MLBN, that as of march 28th the Mets are projected to go 82-80 finish 3rd and only 5 games behind the nationals, and Eric Byrnes backed the mets up. But I just don't see this team right now finishing over .500 thoughts?

The 2nd half should be better than the first with d'Arnaud and Wheeler.

Duda, Cowgill, and Byrd in the OF can be better than initially expected. Bench is pretty solid.

The infield looks good if Ruben performs normally.

Rotation even without Johan could be good. Every starter in our rotation has the potential to put up a sub-4.00 ERA, even Hefner if things break right for him based on his peripherals.

The pen looks good. I think our veteran pen could work well. They should hold leads and keep us within striking distance.

We don't have enough firepower to overtake the Nats and probably Braves, but we could reach that projection.

Probably about 70 wins sounds about right.

Having said that, anything is possible.

As the Orioles showed last year, anything is possible. We would just have to win a lot of close games.

This team has 70 wins written all over it. Even less if there are critical injuries to key players.

Yes I agree but this is projections without wheeler or any additions. And honestly I don't think the nationals are only a 5 win team better then us.

I thought we were a 62 to 67 win team last year. And if we didn't play over our heads for much of the first half i woulda been right.

But there's enogh talent on this team to win 70 games and maybe even 75. Eighty is a huge stretch.

I stand by 41-40 at the break and about 82-80 at the end of 2013.

    Don't worry. He's got this.

If we are that good by the break, we could finish strong.

    Thats if everything goes right.

Mets should trade for Lilly and Capuano. It'd cost absolutely nothing in terms of prospects. Both contracts expire after this year. We'd actually be competitive.
